Anyone with an R going to get the new ST?

It's cool, but so very exclusive that I have a hard time getting excited about it. The lack of rear wheel steer in the name of weight savings is pretty laughable. Here you have this great advance that was universally hailed... now you're getting rid of it to make the car more "pure"? Seems gimmicky to me.

The R has a lot to distinguish it from the 991 GT3:
- Carbon hood
- Carbon fenders
- Magnesium roof
- Perspex windows
- Completely re-tuned rear steer, different progressive curve
- Better EPAS tuning
- Re-tuned suspension, setup for road, not track
- Option to remove A/C and Radio
- 10lbs of sound deadening removed
- Special clutch, single mass flywheel
- RS engine... albeit slightly lower redline
I really recommend watching the EVO walk-around and "Jason Cammisa on the 911R" to see what makes it such a special car.
I'm sure we'll hear more about the S/T in the near future that might make the case that it's just as special, if not more, but the interviews that are out there in the ether right now don't do a great job indicating this.

- Carbon hood <- CHECK
- Carbon fenders <- CHECK
- Magnesium roof <- CHECK (carbon now?)
- Perspex windows <- Not sure on this one
- Completely re-tuned rear steer, different progressive curve <- Intentionally removed
- Better EPAS tuning <- There is no 911R EPAS map, it uses the same EPAS map as the GT3. Check the EPS module settings if you don't believe me.
- Re-tuned suspension, setup for road, not track <- CHECK
- Option to remove A/C and Radio <- Missing from S/T
- 10lbs of sound deadening removed <- CHECK (80lbs?)
- Special clutch, single mass flywheel <- CHECK, with shorter gears this time
- RS engine... albeit slightly lower redline <- CHECK
And now the S/T has carbon doors, shorter gears, and a bespoke spoiler (gurney flap)

The lack of RAS seems silly - it doesn't weigh much. It's almost like installing smaller tires because they weigh less.
That said, Porsche is pretty good at this and it's rare for them to screw up a 911, especially one like this. It will be interesting to hear about back to back drives. I suspect the 911R will have a more raw feel and character.

I want one either ras or not, not a big deal to me.

personally i think the ST looks better. The only hesitation i would have is that the 992.2 era is coming and something more valuable/special may be around the corner.

The engine is much better in the 991.2 GT3, and if you check the right options the 991.2 GT3T is only 40 lbs heavier than the R.
Both Chris Harris and Bovingdon stressed the engine point in their 991.2 GT3 review videos.
