Default Engine running cool

I am concerned that my engine on my 991.2 GT3RS is running too cool and maybe my thermostat is stuck open. Today on a drive after my car was up to operating temps(driving for an hour) I was on some side streets and my operating temp was as low as 158 water and 190 oil. Once I got back on the highway they rose and stayed at 178 water and 190 oil. Even the 178 water temp on the highway seems low. This is on a 55 degree morning. Is there a problem here?

Had a similar experience once and it was the thermostat.

Likely thermostat. Very common.

What water temps are you guys seeing at highway cruise? Is 178 too low?

Water temp at 178 is not too low. Oil temp at 178 is right on the border of where you would like for maximum lubrication but most of the time when you see 178 water temp you will see oil temp in the 190-200 range which is okay.

It seems we are all getting used to seeing 200 plus on the the water temp as most cars are driven to do this for emissions reasons. The higher the water temp the hotter the oil temp will be. So if you oil is in the 200-230 F range you are good almost no matter what the water temp is

178F water is too low for these cars. They run over 200F at operating temperature, perhaps something like 212F before the cooling fans get activated and bring the temps down to 205F or so...
If this is a regular occurrence with your car I'm surprised you don't have a CEL on...

agree with others about 245 being way too hot even in stop and go traffic. this is not normal. my .1 C2S spends about 30% of its current life in heavy chicago traffic and this has never happened. even without codes, something definitely went wrong with some aspect of the cooling system for the temp to rocket up like that. seems it self corrected (for now at least) after cool down?. could be anything .....from the water pump too cooling fans and everything in-between?. good idea keeping an eye on it and mentioning it at your upcoming service. a cooling system check is definitely in order imho. hopefully you luck out and it's a one time glitch.

btw....i wouldn't rule out the pump because it's a .1. water pumps go out in all cars eventually.....just some do it sooner then others and more often (.2)

best of luck
