Hi there! New to Rennlist and the Porsche world.
Currently looking to get a 991.1 GT3 (preferably black color) and came across this one for sale: 2014 Porsche 911 GT3 Coupe RWD - $109,950 - CarGurus
Spoke with the stealership on details about the branded title. The owner says that the vehicle was part of a private collection in a car facility which got affected by a local storm. According to him, the collector filed a claim with his umbrella insurance and included this vehicle in it (and others).
He also claims that they bought the car from the insurance company after inspecting it and found zero signs of water damage, neither the water entered the cabin (who knows whether that is actually true). Afterwards, they stripped the car inside out and reviewed the whole electronic system and found absolutely nothing with it ( bla bla bla ..... )
Apparently, they have driven the car for 500 miles and found no codes or signs of malfunction.
They also sent me the Carfax of the car. It's a 4 owner and prior Porsche CPOd car, (which recently expired). By any chance do you know if the 10 yr engine warranty (till sometime in 2024) would still apply for a car with a branded title like this?
It is my understanding that this is kind of a risky move when buying a vehicle like a GT3, however wanted to hopefully hear what other more experience members here think and what a fair price for a car like this would be in your opinion ( currently asking $ 109lk).
Do you also think that a PPI would be helpful here or rather a PPI won't be able to detect any potential "hidden" water damage?
Thanks very much all for any insights / thoughts based on your experience with 911s and GT3s.
Much appreciated!
Mario

I don't know the answer to what Porsche would do here if you buy that car, the engine blows, and it has a branded title. Only they would.
I'd personally stay away from it if it were me.
They could easily say not covered because engine took damage from flood. And nothing to prove that wrong, since it's why the reason the title isn't clean any longer. Same with an accident that effected frame, or rear-end collision, etc.
You're playing with fire IMO.

The listing says ‘salvage title’ and ‘significant damage reported’ so something is definitely off.

I'm local to this dealer and lookedat. GT3 that they had a few months ago. He told me that the only thing to worry about on these cars in an ECU that's under the seat. Sounds a little fishy to me and I passed. The engine warranty would be the least of my worries.

If your a YouTuber looking for a new restoration go for it.
Otherwise run like hell because most dealers are liars.

Of course…according to the selling dealer this salvage title thing was a big misunderstanding. This car would only interest me at $80,000, but I have a low tolerance for risk with cars. Nice cars don’t cost that much more than the $109k ask.

When you return to the dealer with problems the misunderstanding will be entirely your own. Do not count on Porsche to step up either.

Pass and pass and pass. It will never be worth the potential headaches or stress unless…….you’re getting it for less than $50K so a roll of the dice is worth it. A rule I learned a long time ago on here……buy the best GT car you can afford.

I would NEVER consider buying this car, unless it would be for parts. The resale will be virtually impossible, insurance difficult, and you should expect NO support from Porsche if anything would ever go wrong in the future. I wouldn't buy a 991.1 that didn't already have a G motor replacement. Even if you bought it and the motor failed tomorrow, do you really think PCNA is going to give you a $45k replacement motor when they could claim the ECU caused the failure?
