Default 991.2 Speedster - Does Leaving Top Down Damage Top

Almost 100% of the time I drive my Speedster it is with the top down. When not being driven it is kept in a temperature controlled garage. I had heard that it is not recommended to leave the top down all the time because it may cause the convertible top material to wrinkle and that the top needs to keep stretched when not being used. If that is not the case then I would probably just leave it down rather than putting it back up every time I come back home. Any help with this question would be appreciated.

Interesting, never heard that ……..my top has been up twice since I got it new. I’ve closed it to check and didn’t notice anything odd.

this is certainly the case with my 718 Spyder.... I left mine down for a couple of weeks while sitting in the garage and I could hardly close it again because of "shrinkage" ... not sure how this relates to Speedster YMMV

I didn't like to leave it down all the time because of my addiction to new car smell and fear of rodents getting into the cabin, however one of my Speedsters sat in dealership showroom with top down for nearly a year and it was flawless upon delivery. I would not worry about this at all. If so, just put the top up every few months. Enjoy your Speedster and don't fret about this nonsense.

It's a recommendation for pretty much any cloth convertible top. Here are two convertible cardinal rules I grew up with.
1. Never ever store the top in the down position when wet.
2. Always always close the top when parked overnight or longer.

Why? I do not want to find out!

My spyder is stored top down. Top only goes up a few days a year (like when I take it in for service). No issues other than the round pressure marks on the roof from the pads on the cover. Speedster top is similar to spyder including the round pressure marks.

+1 but I live in NorCal. I'm not sure how the top would fare in much colder or hotter climate

Three years with the top down, and recently closed it for a peak and closed fine. Personally would worry with it up or down …….
