Not sure how many of you all received the Porsche connect issue with the need pay for the upgrade. Not that I use it, but why should be pay for their F up using 3G in 2019 cars.

Got the e-mail. Zero chance I do this. Don't care what it costs - I'm not driving to the dealer for this. CarPlay works great.

I just had it done for my 2017 Audi Q7 and frankly it was worth it for one reason, it would spit an error message on the MMI screen every time it started without the update. A consistent and annoying reminder that the thing had a 3g radio it should not have.

I got the free offer to upgrade back in Nov/Dec but parts were out of stock and/or the rollout was frozen then. I finally found a shop with the parts and had it done this week. It was an awful experience. First, the shop had terrible communication, which was frustrating to say the least. I'll spare everyone from that rant.
1) I have a Cayenne S E-Hybrid, so the biggest value in Car Connect is the pre heat/cool remote climate control. Without that feature, I am not sure it was worth the time and hassle (let alone potential costs)
2) It was supposed to be same day service, but it took two full days. They claimed the "re-programing" was going slowly (if it was truly "re-programing" the time they said it was, that part alone took 26+ hours).
3) They didn't reactivate car connect after the hardware install (they need to reenter the vodafone activation code just like the first time the system was activated). They gave me the car and were sending me on my way without it working. I stopped and said it's not connecting and then I had to work with the shop manager for 1.5 hrs trying to get it to activate. That was something they should have sorted out before I got there.
4) I was told I was the guinea pig for this update; something you really shouldn't ever be, especially when you pay the Porsche premium
5) This one is dealer specific but I am still pissed about this; they drained my hybrid battery and refused to charge it when I asked. Maybe Porsche corporate isn't reimbursing them well so they didn't want to give me the $1.50 of electricity for free. It was really weird when a floor guy was about to plug in my cayenne, and someone came sprinting out of the back office yelling that the service manager said not to do anything more to my car.
All in all, it was a bizarre experience. If it weren't free upgrade and I didnt have access to pre heat/cool, I would say this is not worth it. In total, the hassle wasted a day of my life that I will never get back.

Ive complained, car is still under warranty, $400k car, i would appreciate them fixing it... given Honda and Toyota both updated my other vehicles for the same issue without a blip and for free. My dealer assures me they wont charge me,
