Apologies if this has already been discussed but I've searched this forum and elsewhere to no avail. Are the 2016's not capable of accepting a charge through the passenger footwell socket? I'm trying to avoid having to order the post clamp adapter if possible. If that's the only route, so be it. Thanks in advance.

I'm on my third year of winter storage charging a 2016 RS through the port in the passenger foot well. Works perfectly fine for me.

Interesting and thanks for confirming that it SHOULD work in my case as well. Maybe I’m missing something. I’ve selected the mode on the charger within seconds of locking the door and all appears well and then I head back out to the Garage to take a peek and it’s back in default/power on mode.

Is it possible your car has something set to switch off power after a certain amount of time ? Look in the Menus ?

or has it been set to do this in its ECU ? Say at factory or dealer?

You’re supposed to plug it in while the car is still “awake” and then immediately close the door and lock the car. That will prevent the plug from turning off, at least thats what works on mine.

That's exactly what I've been doing since Tuesday. I feel like I'm reaching insanity now. Thanks for your input. Hopefully someone can chime in who has had similar results and found a solution. This one's different for sure.

Have you been using the mode button on the charger to set it to the correct charge type?

Yes, per the manual. I’ve also tried all the other ports.

I had this problem with every one of my 2016 and earlier Porsches. Dealer tried recoding, never worked. Had to do pigtails to the battery.

So I took it out for a drive, parked it, left the accessory on, plugged the charger into the socket under the armrest (again) thinking I’d try the socket under the front hood next, then set the mode to the proper battery type, took the key out of the ignition, closed the doors, and locked it once.

Came back over a half hour later and it was still charging. Checked again another hour later and still charging. Inconsistent but I’ll take it. I guess the passenger footwell doesn’t now isn’t working. I’ll try it once more next time but I’m hopeful the socket under the armrest cover at least works going forward.

Howdy all.

I just came back from a mini-vacation yesterday only to find that we had a power outage over the weekend and tripped the charger. Now, following the same footsteps I took from last week, the charger is no longer recognized after a short period of time. Anyhow, just thought I'd post again in case anyone had any other ideas.

Unplug everything.

1) Cycle ignition on & off
2) Plug into footwell
3) Plug into wall outlet
4) Select proper mode
5) Lock car

The charger not going back to its previous operating mode (post a power outage) is an oversight (or perhaps an over design for safety)?
In any case, will be going with a different solution for next winter as its annoying to have to check status of the charger each time (though I like the excuse to peek under the covers as we all miss our cars during their hibernation).
