Default Loudness AWE v GMG Center Bypass GT3RS

Hello,

I am just reaching out for some opinion in this community. I used to have a 991.2 GT3 and I had the GMG Center Bypass on the vehicle. I loved the sound and quality of the product. However, I wanted something that is a tad louder and more aggressive. I was just wondering if anyone on this forum has experience on the AWE Switchpath full exhaust system for the GT3 (Side muffler delete + Center Bypass). I am only concerned about the noise level when valves are closed, in the exhausts quietest setting, is it still much much louder than the GMG in the quietest setting?

Thank You Very Much!

I ran the AWE Switchpath with the valves disconnected. It sounds amazing. Yes it’s loud, but that’s why I got it. There was some annoying drone at highway speeds but you could avoid it most generally with selective gearing. Definitely wouldn’t have drone if the valves were left connected but you miss out on the low end rpm exhaust note doing so. I have since sold the car but I would replicate the same again in a heart beat. I have no experience nor have heard the GMG.

Thank You! How much louder would you say the AWE is when you are trying to be quiet compared to a centre bypass , is it 2 times louder? Just want to see if I will be able to drive it around without being too too obnoxious, especially late at night.

Thank you so much! I love loud, just want it to be manageable when driving in the neighbourhood early morning or late nights and not too obnoxious in the downtown area, cops are very strict where I am.

In having a whole lot of seat time in various center and side bypass combinations, I have to say that having realistic expectations is very important in considering something like this. Combining a side and center muffler delete is not for the faint of heart, you'd be surprised how much of a sound level increase adding side deletes offers on top of a center muffler bypass. I would say it's at the upper cusp of what is "reasonable" for sound level on the street for most people. The most important thing to note though is the fact you've deleted all three mufflers off the car. At that point, even if the system is valved all you are doing is routing the flow path through smaller diameter piping with the valves closed. That is not enough to make a notable reduction in sound level to the driver, at least not much more than simply "taking the edge off". Outside the car the valve transition is more noticeable, but still considered aggressive valved closed. If you are looking for a mild to wild experience, a side and center muffler bypass combination is probably not going to meet your goals. It does sound incredible, you just have to know that you're going to have a considerable amount more sound with valves closed than you've had with just the center muffler bypass.

For what it's worth, we have a combination of side and center muffler bypass pipes called out Modular Competition Package if you want to give it a shot. It's well priced and excellent quality. Below is a link to our Rennlist thread where we released it, as well as a link to our website if you'd like to order one. I've also included a photo and video of the system, flow path charts to help you visualize what's going on with the factory muffler system, and a link to our center vs side muffler bypass thread in the event that helps provide some useful education. Sound is subjective, goals are unique, and we are very experienced in tailoring product combinations to the individual. I would recommend we hop on the phone before you pursue anything in particular, as it would be worth reviewing everything in more depth to ensure your expectations are met and your money is well spent. I have the GMG center section with the side delete and its LOUD (991.1 GT3) I can't imagine wanting it louder... at 9K it's pure bliss, but just driving around it can be a bit much (especially with the wife in the car). I thought about replacing the corner delete pipes with valves but after hearing a car with the valves (similar to the Soul system) and another with just the center section, I have decided to leave it alone and just put it in a higher gear cruising around for now.

I have had the full AWE switchpath exhaust and now I have just the AWE center bypass. I would say the full system is 2-3x louder than just a center bypass, all the center bypasses will be similar in loudness. I had to put the side mufflers back on, I was going deaf, but my oh my did it sound amazing. Lots of drone / rattling though.

Stick with center bypass, it's loud enough. You'll regret making the car too loud and the vibration will eventually annoy you. Factory exhaust already blows high DBs.

I cannot speak to the AWE Switchpath exhaust, but I can speak to the GMG WC center section exhaust and the GMG WC-EVO long tube headers (which have 200 cell per square inch catalytic converters).

When I purchased my 991.2 GT3, the GMG center section had been fitted along with the OE headers and OE side mufflers. Like you, I wanted a bit more sound when the values were open. I was also hoping to get rid of the deep resonance that occurred in the 2400–2800 RPM range. Given that I already had the GMG WC center section, and after reading several threads on Rennlist, I decided against a side muffler by-pass—for reasons already stated—and instead looked for headers with catalytic converters. A local rennlist member had a set of the aforementioned headers for sale, so I purchased and installed them.

The result was what I had hoped for. With the values open the car sings like a sport bike, and with them closed it is barely louder than with just the GMG WC center section. The drone is more or less inaudible, as the headers lowered the pitch enough so that the deep resonance is no longer present. On top of all that, the headers gave the car a nontrivial increase in midrange punch. The cherry on the top was the addition of the
Cargraphic exhaust valve controller, as it allowed me to keep the values fully open at all RPMs if I so wished.

I have the Soul side and center bypass with valve. Originally just had the center and it didn't seem loud enough. I added the side bypass and totally transformed the car. No drone at all if you stay below ~3800 rpm, at that point you're going about 86mph in 6th gear so highway cruising is totally a non issue. At 5K+ RPM, sounds amazing.

I have Soul catless headers with Soul Modular Competition Exhaust Package on my GT3 RS, is the best sounding car on the track at this moment, different GT3 owners with other exhaust brand do recognise. Yes is LOUD, but I use my RS mostly for the track.
