Question Current Market: GT3RS or 458?

I know I will get biased responses, but I am genuinely curious as to your feedback.

I have recently sold my 991.1 C2S with the goal of getting a GT3. I'm about a year late in my quest to upgrade to a GT3 and in that time the market has changed significantly and the 992 GT3 is "out" now.

Here is my dilemma now and wondering your thoughts on it for those who have considered both in the past:

- .2 GT3 values are 190-210K for nice specs that would interest me.
- I would take a .1 GT3RS all day over a .2 GT3 in the 190's
- .1 RS are around ~$180K and would need aftermarket warranty
- .2 RS are around ~$220K for CPO which is my budget
- CPO 458 ~$200K

I also am anticipating paying more and do not want to wait for the "dip" for a year or more, plan on purchasing in the next 3 months.

I have loved the 458 specifically for a while, while my goal is not to be a "Ferrari guy" I appreciate what the car is and is very appealing to me now that my budget has increased.

I will track both cars, if I got the RS would track it more, but I am not a track junkie and will basically use either car the way I have my C2S which is cruising with my friends and occasional canyons, my 5 y/o son, and I love detailing so I would be very interested in keeping it in really good condition.

I was dead set on the RS.. but now the prices are high enough on where I feel like the 458 is a shot I need to look at taking. I am set to view both cars next week - but curious as to feedback on here for those who have looked into both.

Cheers!

The 458 is a great car and also the last NA V8 Ferrari, for those that care about that stuff. The GT3/RS's will be better track cars and significantly easier on your wallet, even for a few occasional days. If not for track duty I would bo Maranello over Stuttgart assuming similar pricing.

Good luck.
Chet

Perhaps you'll find a nice one, but I've never seen such an influx of crap 458s come to the market at once. Very few desirable ones, mostly beat up 20k+ mile cars that greedy owners think they can sell at the peak but have been sitting forever now. I'd fear a crap 458 more than a slightly dog-eared GT3 because GT3s are like tanks.

Saying 'track car' and '458' in the same sentence makes me think of a picture of a vacuum cleaner sucking money straight out of the wallet in your back pocket.

Have owned both and two of my all time favorites(991RS and 458).

This will also help. I drive my cars hard(canyons, track days, etc) I found both cars to be very reliable.

You should really drive both and then decide. Either way you win.

The key to these cars is being proactive on maintenance.

Nothing like a mid engine Ferrari 8....Had one for 5 years, bulletproof.....but will definitely be more expensive to track vs the Porsche....

IMO, .1 RS are currently the best value for money, if you can find a CPO with sub 10K miles.

The premium on the .2RS is not worth the difference and you will better suited to use those funds on track events.

I would choose .1 RS over the 458.

I would go with the right 458, and dial back the track days accordingly.

Get the RS.

Drive both and you will realize how outdated both the chassis and gearbox is in the 458, esp. in comparison to the 991.1 GT3 RS.

Have both, get a GT3 variant if you want to go to the track is my opinion. Both cars have their advantages over the other. GT3 would be better suited for what you describe.

+999 this!

Having said that, if you can give up the tracking desire, or if you have the wallet to support it, IMHPO I would rather own a 458 than a GT3 (RS or not)...especially if your budget allows for the 458 Speciali. That was the car I almost bought before I decided i just could not say no to my GT2. Luckily for me I seem to have bought at just the right time before the prices started getting stupid crazy. GLWYD...enjoy the hunt. As a wise man once said; Wanting is often times more fun than having.

I would be interested in your feedback on the advantages (and cons) of both cars since you own them both.

i had a 458 for about 4 years. Can't go wrong with either one here. The ferrari will have better road manners and its gearing is nice and short so you can have some fun with it on the street. If its a bucket list item for you i'd do it. not many people can say they've owned a mid engine ferrari in their life. YOLO.

i sold mine for a .2 gt3 and never looked back.
