Just get the 458 Speciale and be done with it. Great handling car and it is so much more of an event driving it than any GT3/RS. Speciale probably has one of the most telepathic front ends of any car I have ever driven. I don't recommend tracking it unless you have fu money. The GT3/RS is a way better track car.
Chet
GOD that is sexy. The Speciale is by far my fav sub-million dollar later-model Ferrari.
But the OP is looking to stay in the low 200s... Speciales are double that at best, unfortunately. If they were in the 200s there'd be one in my garage for sure
Posts above, and the OP test drive experience, are pretty spot on. The 458 is a sexy beast, and an AMAZING street car. They got it 'right'.
The GT RS are on a different performance scale though, by design and intent.
Guess depends on what you plan to do with the car. I don't care how much one believes they are 'carving' canyons, the 458 will not be the limiting factor
For frequent track use, Porsche GT all the way.
And one final comment, if you have to pick just one car for the garage, then PCAR no question.
I can't give an opinion on 991 GT cars. My time in them has been short and while I don't dislike them, I don't aspire to ever buy one either.
I'm fortunate to own a 997-2 RS and a 458. I've had the 997 for almost 6 years and it won't leave my garage until my left knee finally gives up. The 458 I bought last December. I thought the honeymoon period would last a few months and then I'd be back in Porscheland.
Well, the longer I own the Fiat, the more I like it. It's a great car to drive, very comfortable and composed on the highway, yet a lot of fun in the canyons. Significantly better turn-in, but doesn't have as much rear grip as my 911, and the steering is a bit light. Not as confidence inspiring, but that's part of the fun. She likes to dance! The engine is absolutely spectacular and the noise is ungodly! I was a little hesitant whether I'd like the DCT long-term, but shifting adds to the drama of driving the car quick. The short gearing is amazing!
The 458 is also quite easy to work on, I've done suspension mods, brake and front lift overhauls, and a few other exterior and interior odds and ends.
After owning the Fiat for 8-9 months now it would be tough to be in OP's shoes, it's a hard choice to make. BTW, the Daytona and the standard seats are no good. Worse than Porsche's sport seats, in fact. Find a car with the racing seats, they are much grippier and the seating position is lower.
I wouldn't care much about the maintenance program or CPO. 458s are well built.
Agree with most of the comments. Have both and the 458 driven slowly OR fast at any RPM is an event. The RS' sound at 9k can't be beat but around town it's just not as exciting at legal speeds. Both have merits.
As mentioned my tops out at low 200’s so RS or Italia it will be.
I definitely need a longer drive with the 458.. really ****ty test drive in traffic and showing me the basics of the car, I couldn’t get it going like the RS where they handed me the keys and let me take it.
Have you considered a manual F430?
It's a multi-dimensional car, and a lot of fun...super fast revving, light flywheel, gated shifter and adjustable suspension/e-diff/mannetino... nice
Quite more involving and emotional than 991.2 3RS and the latter is a screaming beast with all sorts of pops and barks with pdk-sport...
A little older tech more of 997 generation but watch below:
A Ferrari will take the cash out of your wallet and go shopping, but you won’t care.
I chuckle every time I read that....
I just got a 991.1 RS, coming from a 991.1 TT because I wanted a different track experience, and I'm just not a turbo guy. The sound from the RS is otherworldly. Even below 5k. It's just... the 991TT is faster in every sense, but I could not care less.... I just want to drive the RS.
The dealer I bought my RS from had a 458 for about the same money - I looked, but did not drive because for my needs right now, the Porsche is a better fit. But god d*mn that 458 looked good. Someday, for absolute certain, I will buy one.. NA V8 Ferrari... bucket list. I really envy you guys have have both. Probably the best $300-400k tandem you could have.

Any updates OP?
So far no good updates. The refi on our house that was supposed to take 2 months is taking close to 4 months, so I can't do anything till it closes even if I wanted to (ugh!). My 991.1 C2S has officially left my house and I'm actually really bummed about it.. so the timing of the refi is driving me crazy. It's also forcing me to wait to see how and if the 992 GT3's that started to hit impact the 991 GT market at all over the next few months. It's going to come down to the right car at the right price for me, so far I'm leaning towards the 458 and started looking at a 570S as an option too.
I did make a strong offer on a 991.1 RS that was turned down. We will see if that car comes back into play.
This delay on my end is definitely giving me time to think, maybe too much
I’d stick with the 458 over the 570s. But ya know to be honest I don’t have a great answer why. I owned a MP4-12c. Wonderful wonderful car, until it wasn’t and then it was sort of a cascading set of problems. From what I have been told by McLaren people is that these cars are so precisely engineered when one thing goes wrong just give your bank account number to the dealer and fund it when they tell you haha. I do miss that car though...maybe keep the 570 on the list...I don’t know...
570 is nice too. its got tons of performance. exhaust and tune and you close to 2RS type power. ~600whp. doors go up. looks exotic. great driving position. In fact there's a guy here who sold his .2 gt3 for a new huracan order. while waiting he got a 600lt to pass the time. now he is seriously reconsidering the huracan and might keep the LT.
I'd be comfortable owning a 458 without warranty. in fact i did that for 4 years. same with a porsche gt car. But I wouldn't even look at a mclaren without one.
I would definitely get 458 in the right spec and low miles. I think it has way more upside as last NA V8 Ferrari that sounds epic compared to 991 GT3 as the 992 GT3s will be the latest/greatest.
If you don’t care about resale- buy F430 for sound and cars&coffee time and a new GT4 for the track. Will cost you about the same.

Great points.. I'm definitely down a slippery slope as my budget has gone from 120-140 for a .1 GT3 to 180-210K for a RS, 458 and now looking at the 570s as a great "value" for such a great car (would be CPO).
I got both as well. Get a RS if you want to track. Get a 458 if you are fond of its amazing sound , style and eyes catching. However, both are good cars for differed tastes & purposes.
