If I ever go back to the city full time I have decided I'll relent and just buy a base boxster I can park and drive with no care. I've hassled with lots of RS/GT/AC'd Porsche in the city and I've decided the stress outweighs the fun. I'd probably keep something far away and just accept I only use it very occasionally. The city is awesome but a challenge for most anything

I've city parked: 964rs, 69 911, 997.1rs and 991.1rs. It can be done, but idk, it's a good hour+ of stress before any fun happens and that is optimistic.

I didn't find it a total waste to have these cars in Manhattan. Parking sucks. My building said it was, "exotic" and added 1k to the monthly price, making it $1,650. But there are some fun roads not far out of town. A few tracks within a few hours. And when you take the car out early in the morning when it's quiet, the exhaust echos off the tall glass buildings, and it sounds like an F1 car. Probably woke up about a million people though haha.

They’re some good high end garage options for exotic cars in the city, or you can do what I did - purchased my own dedicated garage spot in an automated robotic garage 😀. Costs about what a 992 GT3 RS would go for, but that way no one will ever touch my car but me 😆

Not a bad investment. PM me details when you have a chance.

How's your experience with the automated facility? I have heard nightmare stories of being unable to retrieve the car due to the robot thing being down.

They’re much more reliable now - the tech has improved considerably and they can now do a manual override to retrieve your car. There’s no danger of the car getting damaged.

in NYC, where the garage attendants don’t care, and the garages are stacked with cars to an inch of your life, I think it’s better to go with an option where no one touches your car but you.

I think it’s all about the car’s value to you. I treat my 50k 993 the same as my TTS or GT3. But I know there’s crazy folks in NYC/NJ renting out their 911s and Lambos on Turo to make an extra buck - so who knows?

Thanks for that. Yeah I'm not one of those "beater" car guys, I treated my Highlander the same as my high end cars. It almost killed me when a valet scratched it. New management in my garage has been tough on the valets to return cars pristine and without incident and it's worked. I still rather park it myself or remove the human out of the equation in this case.
