991.1 GT3 strategy...
I'm curious what people think about the current market for ~7 year old (2014 - 2015) 991.1 GT3s. For example, if one were to buy a low mileage 2015 GT3 now, there would be only ~3 yrs left on the 10-yr Porsche engine warranty come this fall... It seems to me that many people may be looking to sell their 991.1 GT3s over the next couple of years as the warrantees expire. This should produce significant downward pressure on prices... Comments? As a potential buyer, should I wait a year or two, or avoid these cars altogether?

Nobody has a crystal ball. If you want the car, buy it, enjoy it. You could buy a new Benz and lose much more over the next couple years. Tomorrow isn't guaranteed.

I thought about the same thing. Then I saw GT3s with 60k miles on them on the factory engine. Not all will bite the dust.
Furthermore, I think the 991.1 GT3 looks th best, sounds the best and is the best bargain for a car around 120-130k. I don't see myself selling it, because what are you going to get that's much better. Sure the newer ones are faster, but it's fast enough.

When the engine lasts 10 years, it will most likely not fail in year 11. And then you still have the chance of goodwill from Porsche... and also other engines can die. Sure, this finger follower thing is not good for the price stability but I would not expect a major price impact.
I will hold mine. Tune it... if it fails, I put in a tuned valvetrain or a used but like new 4l for 20k from ebay ;D

I agree that they are great cars, and pretty much what I can hope to afford. However, the prices seem insanely inflated at the moment (more like $150K), and I'm wondering when things are going to settle down a bit... perhaps when the cars are about to go off warranty. Of course, then one would be taking a big gamble in purchasing one. I suspect the market will
reflect that risk at some point.

Also, if the engine gets killed at the 12,14, 15 service year mark, you can get another one. They make more of them and they’re damn good.

If you’re interested in buying the car as an investment, or you’re the type of person who will worry the joy out of ownership, and you’ve got say $50 to $75k more, than my suggestion would be to buy a newer 991.2 model. Many of us GT3 owners have put an additional $20 - $30k of protectant, safety & performance improvements in our cars. Most also have premium bumper to bumper aftermarket warranties. I’m convinced there is a higher likelihood of some bozo rear ending me on the streets than my engine failing.

I agree, the 991.1 is borderline, still engaging enough to be fun with the PDK
Had a 991.1 Carrera S with 7speed manual. The GT3 2x as fun.
9000 RPM (just make sure you change the oil often and with the good stuff
Crazy Fast Shifts
Sexy design and curves
You seriously cannot go wrong with this car. For the price the only thing I can think of being somewhat equal:
GT4 4.0 with buckets and exhaust (good value and warranty) 8000 redline
F430 (fairly reliable but comes with other issues) 8500 redline

Yes, but it's the mileage that is relevant. The car I'm considering has just 7K miles. Hard not to consider it a ticking time bomb. Does anyone know the mean mileage to failure for the unlucky ones...?

@aways - I had the same dilemma about a low mileage 991.1 GT3 and got lots of answers from this thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-...-failures.html

My 2015 GT3 has 40K miles. Never an issue. I had it exhaustively checked out by a P-car dealer right before I purchased. Could it fail on me suddenly? Sure, but any car can. Will I take my chances after 40k miles of driving in all conditions? For sure!
I think the .1 GT3s are the only decent "value" left in the market. Both the 997s and the 991.2 are out of this world right now. All the prices should come down in general in 12 months when the supply shortages ease.

The original motors failures are all over the board. About the only common thing I've seen is the motors seem to need sufficient time at 9K to reveal the problem, which is difficult to do street driving them. Some are fine even with extreme mileage (I test drove a 2015 with 108K miles) and track time (last I heard Joe Kou's 2014 had 80 plus days on the original motor and ran fine). there isn't much to strategize here.

better enjoy you GT3, go to the track and you will end up with a smile after each heat.
I just replace fluids more frequently, at least once a year depending on how many events...
