Having been a member of RL for over 7 years, I have never asked advice or opinions of others on what I should do. I am really being pulled by an "economic based" decision versus the "gut".
Here are the alternatives and the ensuing dilemma's they cause:
Here are the alternatives and the ensuing dilemma's they cause:
- I can't justify spending $200K on a new GT3, assuming I could obtain a no ADM trade.
- I was planning on a new GT4 as a replacement but some reviews have made me think more than twice. The car appears too soft for my intended use and will require mod's for the track.
- I have a pristine Sapphire Blue 2016 with no damage history and full service records.
- I have a Taycan on order so my budget is not unlimited and somewhat committed.
- Prices for GT3's are insanely high already.
- After the 992 MSRP increase to $161K before options and ADM, market pricing for my car will likely increase.
- Chip shortage and Porsche's strategy to manufacture EV's over ICE 911's is irrefutable. Currently, there is 4-5 month wait on ordering any Porsche sports car.
- I cannot replace my current car under any sane scenario with a 2016 RS or 991.2. I have an extended engine warranty beyond either of these model year cars.
- Initial plan was to offer the car for sale in the fall of 2023 or spring of 2024.
- DE is a big part of my life and am unwilling to forgo a season for a few extra $$.
- Price differential starting from where the market was 2 years ago is a plus $15K-20K, maybe a bit more. While the extra value is welcomed, it won't change my lifestyle.
- I absolutely love my car and its been trouble free, so far.
- My "gut" tells me its time, should I listen?
- Stay with my current car until fall 2023/ spring 2024 or,
- Sell fall 2022/ spring 2023, or
- Offer to sell this coming fall/ spring

What is the problem you are trying to solve for?
The car is worth a little more then when you got it?
You want soothing different?
If you "love" the car, and there is no external source pulling you to sell it, then KEEP IT!!!
I had hopes of getting an RS, but with the current market, I'm "stuck" with my little GT3.

You have five years of warranty remaining on your pristine 2016. I would keep the car and see how things play out over the next year or two. You have the luxury of owning a desired car and can sit on the sidelines while the 992 rush plays out.

Reading your post it seems like you want to keep the car, but there seem to be a missing data point - "DE is a big part of my life", if you sell now to take advantage of higher prices what would you buy for track use? you seem to have ruled out the GT4 or new GT3.

Sounds like you should keep it and keep enjoying the heck out of it.

That is the dilemma - what to buy if I sell at the end of this season. I would have had no consternation upgrading to a newer GT3 (991.2), but without the engine warranty it makes no sense.

An RS would have been a natural step up - I am far from "stuck" with my little GT3. Lack of inertia will result in keeping car for another 2-3 seasons. I try not to be emotional about cars, if not for the "lack of a suitable replacement" the decision would be much easier.

FWIW I had my eye on a new GT4 in blue Monterey Porsche had available. One test drive and that ended that interest. I loved the 981 GT4 I upgraded to after the Cayman R but going back to a GT4 after the GT3 feels like a downgrade.

I unloaded my 991.2 3RS and Huracan EVO for a pair of Ferrari cars. I now have a 2020 812 Superfast and 2019 488GTB. My motivation was to start building the Ferrari relationship to get access to even more rare and collectible stuff down the road. My Porsche relationship isn't what it once was. The dealer network has shifted towards the greedy in the last decade or so and I am sick of playing those games. I love the product but the hustle has become annoying to me and I voted with my feet.

I really hope you see the irony in that.

I think you answered your own question...keep your pristine GT3 and just keep rolling Dude ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
p.s. Re: near term macro economics, the feds are about to print another 2 to 5 trillion dollars so the U.S. and world economy is going to get a pretty big kick in the pants the next three years so I expect Porsche GT car prices to also keep rising.

As someone in the market for 991.1 GT3 right now, I would say financially, you will probably get the most $ for it whether you trade or sell privately. The problem is anything you want to buy will be top $. If you can get a 992 GT3 at MSRP, that's what I would do. Or I should say that's what I'm looking into right now.
