Trickle Charger Connection
Does the cigarette lighter socket in the passenger footwell work for the Porsche C Tek Trickle Charger on a RS? I know it should however my battery went flat and I am not sure if its a faulty charger or this socket is not working.

This is a recurring and weird topic. The footwell one works fine for me w/ the CTEK. BUT . . others report the opposite - that the footwell one cuts off after a few minutes. I'd try the console one and see if you get a different result.

1. Car Ignition on (doesn't need to be running) 2. Plug cigarette lighter plug from charger into car outlet 3. Plug charger into the wall outlet and make sure charger is operating / powered on 4. Car Ignition off 5. LOCK DOORS (if you don't lock them then it will time out and car shuts that lighter socket down after a few minutes). Hope that helps but like @tstafford mentioned, it seems this process isn't consistent across the production dates/cars...only way to be 100% sure is direct wire to your battery. I check mine every 2-3 days just to make sure its still running. Not sure if brief power outages interrupts this process, that is my fear... |
Footwell 12v plug works for me whether the car is locked or not.

2018 GT3 6MT: Cigarette lighter in centre console works great for weeks on end, but I start charging while the ignition is ON then turn off and lock car. Charger needs to be reset if power outage. One note, the cigarette lighter adapter is finicky and has to be pushed ALL the way in and if pushed at even a small angle, it doesn’t engage properly.

This works in mine ('18 GT3) using the footwell adapter (I don't have smoking pkg with center adapter)

Thanks to all that replied, there is no doubt some inconsistency on what works and what doesn’t but I think the response above is probably the safest bet. I spoke with my SA today and he said that he knew there were “issues” but couldn’t work out why on some 911’s its fine and others not so.
1. Plug cigarette lighter plug from charger into car outlet, car ignition off; 1. Turn car ignition on (doesn't need to be running), wait 30" to 60"; 3. Plug charger into the wall outlet and make sure charger is operating / powered on; 4. Turn car ignition off; 5. LOCK DOORS (if you don't lock them then it will time out and car shuts that lighter socket down after a few minutes). |
I just hooked mine directly to the battery...10 minute job.

Yes it is definitely controversial on this topic.
When I bought my 2015 Macan, I was told by the service advisor that from now on, I could not use cigarette lighter to charge the car. So he gave me a connection wire from the battery charger to the battery directly to charge. This is written in the service manual as well. And I have been using this method for all subsequent Porsches. |
