These are first world problems. But Rennlist is a place where people get upset over not getting certain colors or options

In that context, while I think while the gurney flap is very small, it still matters to the overall aesthetic of the car because I'm a purist (like AP). This is why the double bubble roof and hood on the R is so beautiful

All good I am a purist too, but Porsche decided to alter the lines of the 911 starting with the Carrera RS and so on. Some would say my ‘88 with the factory spoiler disrupts the classic 911 shape. My 2008 GT3 even had a Gurney flat under the wing. Fortunately for me the flap on my Touring doesn’t bother me at all, in fact I kind of like it. Like you said first world problems.

In the market if anyone's selling. Willing to look past the PCCB's. Gurney flap OK. Thanks!

Unotaz,

thank you. I understand you can’t share secrets (like spring rates which I suppose could be calculated if anyone has taken off a set of rear springs), but can you share whether the GT3T springs are longer than the GT3 wing or is the difference in where they are adjusted on the coilovers? (A stiffer spring is shorter for a given ride height). Somewhere there is the amount of downforce comparing a GT3T and wing, wiki says 230lbs less at VMAX. It would seem there could be some balance rather than just mathematically accounting for that at VMAX. Maybe we should do like 4x4 people and measure (center of wheel to fender lip) to see if there is a higher static ride height on winged cars.

The whole gurney flap is funny to me because it shows how everything is a trade off. Optimal is a wing (and then you optimize the wing), but both the 911R and the GT3T were compromises. GT3T you get more downforce (less than a wing), but more drag. 911R less drag, but less downforce. I don’t mind it, and don’t really notice it anymore. Besides, all the cool kids fit the GTS style deck lid to their GT3T.

Meanwhile, I removed the front splitter from my Exige S so it was easier to clear driveways .... id do the same with the GT3T if it did not look horrible without it.

It's the same part, but adjusted differently on the coilovers. Great question!

Porsche didn't want to spend more $$ on the Touring, so they tried to minimize any new parts needed.

Look wise, I agree with you that the GTS wing on the Touring looks so much better than the gurney flap.

I'm assuming you are talking about the 88 Turbo? Well, all Turbos come with big spoiler, that was always part of its DNA so I don't see any issue on that from a purist perspective.

I really wished Porsche would have spend some $$$ on budget and produced the Touring as a separate model. There are so many things that Porsche could have done better (eg. gurney flap, separate model badging on the dials, etc).

No just a regular Carrera that has the spoiler option. Some people love it some don’t. I don’t concern myself with others opinions. Obviously Porsche didn’t want to spend the money to change things up. That’s ok with me, I like it just the way it is.

R springs are the exact same part as the GT3 991.1 or 991.2. Just different calibration on the damper ecu.
