Default Potential GT3 Owner

Happy holidays to all. I just Sold my Modified Street / Track 08 Z06 for a price that put me on the path to buy a 2015 GT3. I've been reading over the finger follower issue and have some questions that I apologize for in advance because I'm sure it's been covered over and over.
I'm currently looking over a GT3 with a spec that I love. It has low miles and my only real concern is if the engine warranty still covers the car. The exotic car shop says it does but I'm trying to do my homework by getting a Pre Purchase inspection. I'm not sure if the car shop has the letter from Porsche about the extended warranty. Would that matter? I called a local dealer trying to get information from there service department about pre inspection and the engine warranty and I think they transferred me to an obnoxious sales person going on and on how he wouldn't buy a GT3 from a non Porsche dealer. I literally just had to hang up on the guy. Would anyone like to chime in on other things to be looked at before purchase?
I also have a plan b of possibly getting a Turbo S would this be a horrible Idea for track use? I honestly only track 2 to 3 times a year so other than that it would be a street car. I hope to be pulling the trigger. In an week or so and hope to see some of you around.

Larry

Thanks for the replies I just put a deposit down a 2015 GT3. I hope to be picking her up next week. It just felt more like something I'd like taking to the track.

The engine warranty is for all 2014-2016 GT3s so the car you are looking at would be covered. I had 993 and 996 Turbos before getting a 2015 GT3 and can tell you that the GT3 is a purchase that I do not regret at all. The Turbos are fast for sure and fun at the track but the GT3 is on another level. Good luck in your search.

991.1 GT3 is a fabulous car and now seems great value for money against the Gen2. I owned a Gen 1 for 3 years, 250 Nurburgring laps and many European trips from the UK.

You will read all manner of pro’s and con’s on the Dot 1 engine. OPC purchase is great insurance and cast iron protection if the worst occurs.

Go for it , you will be a happy chappy indeed

Now have an upgrade😬

Yes, the warranty follows the VIN. Fear not.

Don’t overpay for low miles. This is the only car where that’s almost a negative.

Don't sleep on the Turbo S, it's an amazing car that is extremely capable. I dare say most 991.1 GT3 owners, myself included, couldn't exploit the full performance of a Turbo S and that the GT3 is overkill for my skill/intended use.

That being said, the 991.1 GT3 is a monster in a different sense. It's a much more raw and visceral car than the Turbo S. It depends on your wants and desires in a car, but if you enjoy the high revving nature of the engine then the Turbo S will fall short of that; having backseats in the Turbo S can be a plus too if you've got a baby. The Turbo S is also much more comfortable and dailyable than the GT3. I've daily driven my GT3 to 40k miles now, but being a younger lad - I've been able to withstand the slightly punishing ride of the GT3 on terrible NYC roads. Ymmv.

In regards to the engine - as mentioned above, it follows the VIN. If you found a spec you like, just have a PPI done and you should be fine. Porsche may not be thrilled about a GT3 that has had some ECU work done, so I'd say that's the only thing you need to look out for, and that's only for if the 9A1 engine goes bad.

Personally, if I could do it all over again right now - I'd get the 991.2 GT3. Not just because of the engine, but because the manual transmission is so good. OP: if you enjoy a good manual and wouldn't mind waiting to save up a few more pennies (if you do have to save more, that is) then look into the 991.2 GT3. Having recently driven one, I just fell in love with driving manual again.

Can't go wrong either way, good luck!

Just bought a manual 991.2, and after returning from my first weekend drive with the buddies, I came into the kitchen and said to the family, "I'm NEVER selling this car". Mind you this is my third Porsche in 27 months of ownership in this brand, but I finally found what I was looking for. Do your homework now and be honest with yourself in regards to what you want from this next car. Nothing beats taking a drive in both before purchasing, as that will probably tell you what you want the most.

Good luck.

The GT3 is next level, you have no idea until you have it on a track! My first day on track, my easy lap times were so much faster then with my old race car. You will not understand what I am talking about until you have yours on the track.

As others have said, the engine warranty is for every 991.1 GT3, and only covered the engine. There are several (including Porsche) that will sell you a warranty. But it's very rare that you can get a car of this caliber and capability with a full engine warranty! You can just drive the snot out of it with out any worries!!!

It's been a year with mine, and I'm still in love with it, and still surprised with what it can do!

I will cut to the chase...the TTS cars are beasts, if you have never driven one they are hyper fast. GT3/TTS are different cars so only you can make that decision but if you decide on a GT3 I would get a 991.2...unless money is the deciding factor then, well you we all know how that goes. Good luck and enjoy the hunt and get the spec/model that blows your dress up and makes you turn around and look at her every time you walk away.

The 911 turbo in any addition is a fun car. if you purchase a turbo you won't be disappointed in what it can do. Yes, the newer versions are silly fast. Nevertheless, it won't change the fact you desire a GT3. Based on my interpretation of your first post, the GT3 probably offers more of the experience you're looking for out of 911. Porsche has mastered the ability to market various models. Regardless of HP and 0-60, they regularly nail it with their GT cars. They look, feel and perform at the top of their class.

Default Best GT3 for Catskills backroads

Hello fellow GT3 owners.

Background: after owning an '85 Carrera 3.2 and '98 993 C2s, I currently have a 991.1 GT3, and use it mostly for spirited back road pleasure driving on the weekends and occasional light track work. My serious track work is riding motorcycles in expert supersport class (600cc) every weekend of the season at a multitude of North Eastern tracks, and my daily is alternately a Cayenne Turbo, or F150. The limited sight distance offered by the Catskills backroads means that a 991.1 is rarely tested at the limit. Nonetheless, I've been thinking about an upgrade for the purpose of greater driver enjoyment. My thought is that an RS is likely too wide for the narrow roads in the Catskills. And, as appealing as a Touring is aesthetically and as a prospective investment, the wing does serve a useful purpose as far as I'm concerned. A 997.2 4.0 RS would be my fantasy choice, but is well beyond my budget. Hence a 6-speed 991.2 GT3 has been constantly on my mind as a possible next GT3. Your thoughts and opinions would be appreciated. Cheers.

I've driven a 991.1, 991.2 manual, 991.2 PDK and a 981 GT4 in the Smokies. Set up properly the GT4 is a fantastic car for the Smokies, my experience. A phone call to Dundon, TPC and Tarett can make a world of difference.
