Default 991.2 GT3 front bumper grille

Front bumper grilles pretty beat up from track use.

not that easy to show on pictures but sure you know what I mean.

Seen some folks repainting them but just dont want to mess with that.

Any suggestions for options that may survive track use a little better? Otherwise will get oem ones from suncoast...

Thanks!

if you buy a new set of grills and go back to the track, they will beat up the new set.
not only that, you will have to remove the front bumper to install the new grill kit.
I will prefer to paint the old grill, and save the money for other goodies...

Uhm, you have a point. Sure painting will probably come out just as good and certainly cheaper. But in the end it lasted 2 years. I am ok switching every couple years.

Here is what I did, take the bumper off and flip the grills. This will work until you rock chip the new side. Sure beats buying new grills. Powdered coated grills do not hold up as well as what came on the car.

Default Even easier fix

Use Dr. ColorChip on the grille. It masks little paint chips, and no one will see it down low. Eaiser than removing the bumper and flipping the grille around.

PPF the grill !! LOL

but for real i'd just use a sharpie or dr. colorchip.

replace the grill if it gets really bad or when it comes time to sell.

Thanks everyone. I am convinced. Will go this easy route first and avoid the hassle of bumper removal. Next step will be flipping them!

For those of you who have removed / installed new grills - are they glued in? I think I read that in another thread. If so, what glue would you suggest using? Thanks!

Curious also about the process to change the grills - could not find any youtube videos.

This is a solution I used on my race bikes to prevent radiator damage.

1.) purchase chicken wire mesh, nylon tubing, safety wire (zip ties could also be used)
2.) cut out chicken mesh to fit over current mesh
3.) run nylon tubing to create stand-off from current grill, I used safety wire to prevent the tubing from moving around
4.) safety wire or zip tie the sacrificial chicken mesh to the expensive grill

should work really well and not sacrifice much as far as airflow.

No one has replaced the stock mesh grills? I'll go get some Elmer's and zip ties and hope for the best, I guess.

not glued in. there are plastic frames that hold the grills in. .2 grills are a bit harder to get to than .1. lots of little pieces to remove before the grill can be removed.

Wink

These are a consumable and if the car is going to get ran on the track they will get dented and chipped. There is no glue, the retaining frames behind the bumper cover snap in and hold them in place, so replacing is relatively easy. The whole purpose is to let them get beat up instead of that debris damaging your radiators (which the grilles are lesser money than radiators fortunately). Running these on the GT3 Cup's, it makes sense to have a backup set on hand as need be, and from an aesthetics standpoint a fresh set is the best look - it is a $100k+ car after all for any of the modern GT3 cars...
