Default Potential problem with 991.3 engines?

Just returned from a 2 day driver training event at Spa. There were 4 guys in my group plus one instructor. We all drove 991.3 GT3 RSs (OPF and ITBs) supplied by Porsche. 3 of the 5 cars all had engine/transmission failures and had to be replaced. Due to C-19 were were not able to mix with the other groups but we heard we were not the only group to have engine failures. It could have been just the luck of the draw, but, having personally experienced the 991.1 GT3 engine issue, my instincts tell me something else is afoot. Only time will tell.

Thank you for the report. That is concerning. I am confused by the term 991.3 engine. Are you specifically referring to the 991.2 RS with that term?

The only .3 is the Speedster to my knowledge.

No the end of run engines with 6 individual throttle bodies ITB and OPF filter organic particulate filter in the exhaust , speedster motors and end of run Gt3RS motors in some countries .

AFAIK, the USA never got the 991.3 GT3 RS with OPF and ITBs.

Curious, though I do wonder if the issues have more to do with overzealous warnings than actual fatal errors. Several friends with the .3 have been tracking them hard with no issues, but time will tell.

What is a 991.3 ?? The Speedster engine has the ITBs. I don't get it.

VERY interesting....I have a Speedster with under 800 miles in the USA. About 10 days ago, I got an 'Engine Control Fault', and took the car to the dealer immediately. Turns out to be a warped/faulty or incorrectly machined/spec'd intake manifold which is not sitting flush to the engine, resulting in a fuel leak (hence the Fault message.) It's not the gasket and the intake manifold in not available anywhere in the US at this point....Porsche Germany has been contacted, and we'll see what happens.

Having ALSO lived thru the engine fiasco/exchange on my (early) 2014 GT3....I also thought...'hmmm....I wonder....' Let's HOPE not, but reading this did not give me a lot of faith...FINGERS CROSSED...

Interesting - at least the fix would not require any internal surgery...

These just weren’t engine fault lights. Each car came to grinding jerky halt on the track and had to be retrieved by truck.

Ran and supported our customers 991.2 GT3 RS Weissach (OPF) car for 4500 track miles, car is only ever used on the track. Zero issues.

Interesting as never heard of any issues, bad fuel locally maybe?

That really sucks. Sounds like this could be a several month fiasco waiting on a new, correctly machined intake manifold. I wonder if machining the current head would be able to get it back into spec? I'm sure Porsche will just completely replace it, but just curious how far out of whack it is.

Issue needs to be resolved completely and I would think soon as the “.3” engine is the engine for the next generation of GT cars, is it not?
