991.1 GT3 decision
I've spent a good amount of time on the forums but this is my first thread. I thought I'd get some feedback from a knowledgeable group.
I have a '16 991.1 GT3 that I've tracked a few times and would like to track more often. However, I would like to add a harness bar and convert the PCCBs to steel, before tracking more regularly. I have previously tracked a 981 Cayman S and an E46 M3. At the moment, I'm nowhere near the limit of the GT3 but I have the itch to get an RS. Should I save the money on these changes to the GT3 and instead upgrade to .2 RS? I understand the cost delta is greater than just these modifications and many .2RS come with PCCBs.
I wouldn't be buying the RS for improved track times. That comes with seat time and experience at the track. My main motivation is to avoid further track miles, money on mods and depreciation before moving to the RS.
Appreciate your thoughts and feedback.

Personally, I’d stick with what you have. Throw on some AP Radical’s and a roll bar (not a harness bar) and go nuts with the remaining five years of that warranty.
I wouldn’t sweat the depreciation factor; your ‘16 has a shorter fall in terms of absolute dollars than the .2RS
Unless you’ve convinced yourself that you absolutely need an RS. We’re all victims to marketing.

I would stick with the .1. Get the Girodisc conversion and a roll bar and track to you’re heart’s content. You will still be in a better position than a heavily tracked .2RS in terms of total depreciation $.

Thanks for the feedback. You’re completely right that total depreciation would be worse with the .2RS. In my mind, the thinking is I would keep the RS for a long time just because it’s such a special car. However, I already know I would want to move on from GT3 and if I make these track based changes it would be much more difficult to sell.
Maybe the marketing has got to me. I also really like the look of the RS.

I’ll be making to switch over time. Because the RS rear wing is out of the rear view mirror it’s safer. At least that’s what I tell myself. Do you currently have buckets?

Whatever you do, invest in the safety equipment. If you track regularly you want a harness and neck protection. If you can swing the RS and the safety stuff, of course do that!

We have A LOT of customers that regularly track their .1 & .2 GT3s and absolutely love it. Even if you were to upgrade to an RS, we’d highly recommend a rollbar and harnesses for tracking. If you want to send us an email at Sales@gmgracing.com or even give us a call 1.714.432.1582, we can definitely assist you in getting your car track ready!

It sounds like you have RS envy. If you can afford it and plan to track more often, I would buy this one in a heartbeat.
https://rennlist.com/forums/market/1195072.
It has the 2 essential options that make it a great track car IMO (steel rotors/extended tank). Price seems reasonable too.
Good Luck!

That’s exactly where my head is right now. Since I know I would like an RS long term, capitalize on value of GT3 before spending a bunch more.

A 10y engine warranty though that's tough to beat for a track car.
In my experience all 991 GT cars be it a 991.1 GT3, 991.2 GT3 manual or pdk, or either of the .1 or .2 RS's are close enough that with marginally more driver skill any could be faster than the other on any track day. I feel like it might even be more fun gunning for the RSs in your regular old GT3 - but that might be me.
Agreed w the opinion that, if RS is a must, def sooner rather than later in terms of investing further mod money into .1.
