Default Strange Comments from Porsche Service Tech!

My GT2RS is less than 16 months old and it went it for a regular oil change and the vehicle condition report came back with the below.

Job Quote
AIR FILTER - ATTENTION SOON $1101.65
due for air filters change

COOLING SYSTEM ATTENTION SOON $469.15
front air inlets have debris inside front bumper grilles

Does an air filter change cost $1100? And whats up with the debris inside front bumper grills? I dont see anything of substance - there may be a couple of dry leaves - cant I just get them out with a vacuum hose and save myself $500?

Suggestions? Thanks

How many miles? Porsche still uses age based services for everything which really just helps the dealer make money on service. Things like air filters don’t go bad sitting in the garage.

The front grills should be checked and cleaned from time to time. Take a look with a flashlight and see what you see.

Yes, the air filters they will require as part of a time service. If your car has 1000 miles, it doesn't need them done.

The front air inlets you can do yourself with a vacuum and save money.

Even if you have to remove the bumper, it is only 15 Torx screws, Porsche makes it easy to do
What is their labor rate, $200/hr?

I was told $185 an hour or something close - just like you said, I feel like I am getting scammed and its a quick job!

Does anyone have any instructions for the front air inlets?

We should start compiling a list of simple DIY mods and maintenance for the gt2rs. I had the passenger side air snorkel modified so oil changes are now super easy with no bumper removal required.

What about the intercoolers? I imagine a ton of crap gets back there, what is the process to clean and remove debris back there?

I cleaned my front radiators after a 3,500 road trip and it was a long, painful process. I used a lift and worked from under the car, but still a pain. Next time, I will remove the front bumper cover.

At only 3k miles I wouldn’t touch the air filters yet. Unless you put those miles on driving through a dust storm it is absolutely not needed.

Tell them to go scratch. For low mileage cars, common sense must prevail.

You need to tell them what service to perform otherwise they will be changing plugs and engine belts in a couple years at 6k miles.

My local BMW dealer (SF) is much more of a stealership than my local Porsche dealer. At least I feel like my Porsche dealer usually quotes me something accurate and fair.

BMW SF wanted $500 to change my broken fog-light.

I was able to order the OEM part for $140 and change in about 15 minutes. So what is that...$1400/hour for their service?

On a 991.1 GT3, Air Filter DIY is straight forward. The most intimidating part is yanking the rear bumper cover off and the tail lights. If you've never done this before and don't have a "feel" for it, it's a little nerve racking the first time.

I thought $1100 sounds ridiculously high for an air filter change, then I found out genuine GT3RS filters are $300 a pop. So $600 for filters and $500 labor seems on par for dealer pricing.

On GT3 the debris just blows out. Not sure if the 2RS is the same. Just have to angle water or air the right way in the ducts. Dealer should be ashamed for quoting that price.
