Avid IMSA follower. Sad day for me. Hopefully WEC is not effected... and maybe the prospect of the LMDh in 22 would be nice. We'll have to wait and see.

Bummed when I spotted this yesterday. Pretty devastating for IMSA GTLM on the heels of Ford pulling out.

Remember in a previous season when they were running like 2 cars in LMP2. 45 second gap some races... Might as well have not been out there.

5 cars, including the Risi Ferrari, isn't enough for compelling GT racing. And I'm guessing BMW's continued participation with their M8 cruise ship is iffy. Just a hunch. Getting their asses handed to them by Corvette for an entire season wouldn't help their cause.

Is there a chance that since Porsche has pulled GTLM, there won't be a 992 version RSR?

no factory team but plenty of customer teams so 911 cup cars will continue in production.

It is conceivable, although unlikely (IMO).

Porsche produces the RSR to adhere to the FIA WEC / ACO rulebook that governs the GTE Pro / Am classes for Le Mans and the WEC series. IMSA licenses the class and calls it “GTLM.”

Porsche will exit IMSA’s GTLM class at the end of 2020, although they are (implicitly) committed to WEC GTE, at least for now.

There are a few reasons that Porsche is inclined to remain in WEC vs. IMSA IMO:

1. WEC is MUCH more prestigious (despite what the jorts and white new balance crowd might think) ... the premier IMSA drivers always say “Oh, actually I’m really excited to race in America” when asked
2. Racing in WEC is a guaranteed path to Le Mans
3. FIA World Championship opportunity vs. an IMSA championship that doesn’t really carry much weight
