Today while on a drive my PCM started intermittently rebooting itself about every 3-5 minutes for a long 45 minute drive. I called my local dealership and said they have received a flood of calls yesterday and today about this. Good news is you can fix at home. Here is the email they sent. Seems to fix the problem, however it requires a hard reset of the PCM which will Wipe any settings you have saved. Hopefully this helps, as I know a lot of owners are probably freaking out right now.
My 991.1 GT3 PCM started doing this yesterday afternoon.
I just did similar steps to reset the PCM and it's working again. I also logged into Sirius XM and sent a refresh signal to the radio. The refresh step may be optional, but I did it anyway and all Sirius channels were working again within a minute.
Very strange but my Macan (2015) started doing this today as well. Did the reset steps above and working fine now but interesting that this is impacting multiple vehicles out of the blue at the same time. Thinking it must be related to some bad date based code but who knows.
Will see if it is doing the same on my RS next time I take it out...
Did it my 15 Macan, apparently due a software update by Sirius. Fortunately the reset worked as there are some reports on the Macan forum that it didn't work. Was this only on 3.1 or did it also happen to 4.0 I haven't checked the GT3
This was happing to me from day one on my 2016 GTS and the dealership would insist that this was normal. Sad thing is I use three different dealerships and only one send me this notice.
Below is a summary of what my dealer sent me today w/ potential cause and fix.
It should not impact all vehicles.
_______________
Is your Porsche Communication Management/Navigation system rebooting by itself right now?
I wanted to send you a quick note that it was brought to our attention that on Wednesday night Sirius/XM sent out and update over the air that has impacted some of our Porsche Communication Management systems. If your Porsche experiences this the good news is that there is nothing broken with your system. It will not require any parts or hardware to be replaced, due to this issue. Sirius/XM is working on an update and will send it out over the air to fix the issue.
Models that could be impacted: 2010-2016 Panamera 2012-2016 Cayenne 2012-2016 911 2012-2016 Boxster/Cayman 2014-2016 Macan
We have found a potential solution to remedy this. You will need to perform a PCM handover (also known as a PCM hard reset) - Note before you do this it will reset the system and you will lose preset radio stations, bluetooth connections, and stored navigation addresses:
Press and hold the PCM>>Info button for approximately 10 seconds until the PCM reboots. Immediately select the following from the PCM CAR>>OPTION>>Set PCM System>>Reset PCM>>Vehicle Handover>>Yes>>Yes
These instructions can also be found in your Owner's Manuals.
I'm glad I read all this I was blaming that Porsche Track precision App all afternoon.
Funny thing that thing recorded all the data even with PCM cycling.
GT3RS packed away in the back of the garage but no PCM cycling since earlier this morning. I haven't performed the reset yet but thanks for posting the fix.
Thanks, re-set worked after 2nd try (991.1 C-2, 2014). Just have to re-input radio stations and pair phone - DONE. (Hope no more issues but have NOT activated Sirius again)

Your dealership said it was normal for the PCM to reboot every 2 minutes?
Your dealership said it was normal for the PCM to reboot every 2 minutes?
Not every two minutes, but once a day. Their reasoning was, that I was driving with the PCM in areas where it was not getting a signal or something similar.
