I have never had smoke on startup or low acceleration on a "G" engine. This is not normal.

Had smoke on startup with my F motor, but never on my G motor yet. It’s normal from what I understand on cars that are babied and/or shut off abruptly without idling for a few secs.

I was at the dealership today and showed them the video and they said it's normal as long as it stops and doesn't keep on producing smoke.

I'll try to let it idle for a few seconds before shutting down to see if that makes a difference. My car is not babied (4 track days already this year) but I don't think abused either as I do the required maintenance with minimal annual oil change and brake flushes.

Don't care... some smoke, some not. Depends on how the piston rings settled during break in and also how the car is shut down and parked. Mine never smoked but I wouldn't care.

I haven't see any smoke in my replaced .1 GT3 engine even on startup. Prior to the engine replacement it used to smoke up only on startup.

Same for me, no smoke with replaced G motor...only on startup with old F motor.

+1 - Smoke on original E engine. If I let idle for a few moments before turning off, it wouldn't smoke.

No smoke on G engine.

Will the smoking be considered enough reason for the motor switch to the "G" motor? Did you guys with the G motors have any other issues in order to be eligible for the G motor swap?

I’ve got a ‘14 as well. I started seeing white smoke @ startup when the thermostat started to fail. Once replaced, no more smoke.

Interesting. How did you know your thermostat was failing?

That is white smoke, indicating oil...I am not up to speed on the 911 engines yet but in the old days with American V8's I would say the valve seats may be leaking or the intake system is experiencing some oil blow by back into the intake system some how.

Service person said if the valve seats are leaking it would be on going smoke even while you drive. Mine just poofs smoke at startup and then drives fine. No lights or other issues.

Its nothing to worry... the piston rings are designed that way. They made them mor tight with later engines to reduce oil consumption. But the smokers may run with less friction and have a bit more power.

I don't think occasional smoke at startup would constitute a replacement unless its smoking non-stop while running.

To your second question...no other issues other than engine faults at high RPMs.

A little smoke at start up, especially after a long rest, is quite common. The criteria for a new motor are very specific, including CEL showing abnormal detonation, and inspection which shows abnormal rocker arm wear.
