Plugged rear tire and track

I've plugged a tire, near center, and used it on track in a NASA event. It was a small nail not a cut.

Why race with a plug when you can patch it for $20 bucks from the inside? Tire pressures push out, the patch is the best fix not a plug. You will cause another leak from a plug. Add the fact that you're on a race track at high speed, high corner speed, high G's, you're asking for that tire to let loose. I don't care what Michelin says, I've worked in the auto industry for years don't plug ever. It's for emergency use only.

Being from the tire repair industry.... plug is not classed as a permanent repair.
A plug used for emergency repair then install a patch from the inside. The patch/plug combination is an acceptable repair.....for street use and speeds.
NOT recommended for any track use even with the patch and plug repair. All education in the RMA, tire speed rating to be buffed from sidewall thus making tire a P rating.
but your choice. Tire with plug will hold air but does not replace damaged chord body.

Tire patch with a built in plug that goes from the inside into the hole I would track it with no worries.
I wouldn't track with just a plug not worth the risk.
