Others on the forum have used K&N, but I believe as replacements for the OEM paper filters on the non-GT 911's.

Oddly, the same BMC filter (with a different colored rubber gasket (red instead of black)) is more reasonably priced under the GT3 category air filter instead of the RS category. Both filters (red (GT3) and black (GT3 RS) gasket) are sold as fitting the RS at Pelican Parts.

I use K&N air filters on my GT3. I like the fact that they are able to be cleaned and reused. As for flow being better, who knows. I certainly don't feel any more power from the seat of the pants.
