Lots of wrong info in this thread....
You do not have to be a resident of the State to register a car there. The car needs to be registered in the state that is going to be housed and driven. I can live in California and own and register a car in Nevada as long as the car is housed and driven there. What I can't do is tag it there and then drive it primarily here in California.

If the OP is keeping the car in Oregon, one would assume he has some form of residence there. That's where the car should be registered and taxed.

If you are not registering the car in NY you will not pay sales tax to NY.

now if in NY for 6 months plus one day you have a problem because you’re now a legal NY residents. I’ve had this fight twice with NY and won both times as it’s legit. 51% of people win residency in NY, and they will audit the crap out of you. Not worth it if you’re cheating.
I did not know you can have multiple licenses from different state. Interesting...

You can only have a Driver's license assigned one State from what I learned.

I think you misread Maverick787’ s post. He has residency in GA and uses his GA DL.

It is illegal to have multiple drivers licenses.

I did this in Montana recently to avoid the 10% sales tax in Louisiana. The LLC cost me $569. I'm buying two new Porsches in the next 20 months and not paying all that tax.
Smart man...Montana LLC FTW!

Not talking specifically about the OP... The car absolutely does not have to be registered in the state it’s going to be housed and driven.

Most States have a law that requires any vehicle that is driven in the state for x numbers of days, has to be registered there.

But that wasn't my point. My point was that you do not have to register a car where your primary residence is, nor do you have to pay tax on it in your home state when you buy it if it won’t be in that a State. The commenter who said he needed to pay NY tax was wrong.
