UPDATE: Got the part and carefully disassembled it. You can see now what needs to be painted. I wouldn't bother with a wrap after this much effort. Might peel or come off. I will go to a body shop and have the plastic treated and painted properly for max adhesion. Will keep this thread updated. So far so good.
Thanks for the update - how easy was it to remove the center section from the surrounding base? I broke down and ordered the GT2 RS red striped center section (to match red/black interior), with the intention of swapping it into the GT3 surround. Downside is the long wait time for a made-to-order part...

I ordered a new one from Suncoast for this project. In case I screwed it up or found out I couldn't disassemble it. Will get it painted and put back together first. Then move forward with installation.

Sorry - I meant just disassembling the piece that you got from Suncoast.

It wasn't too bad. Just have to be careful and take your time so as not to break anything. Need an assortment of plastic trim removal tools (harbor freight) is all.
Okay painted. Here's what I did. I think it looks great and came out perfect. Can't wait to see it in the car. Pics may not show it but the paint is/looks perfect. NOTE: Don't have a pic of that but chrome top piece was removed. That part wasn't masked around.
1.) Went to automotive paint store and had Racing Yellow mixed and they put it in a spray can.
2.) Wiped the black area to be painted with soapy water followed by isopropyl alcohol.
3.) Scuffed with an ultra fine gray scotch brite pad.
4.) Re-wiped with isopropyl alcohol.
5.) Wiped with a 3M plastic adhesion wipe and painted the masked off area.
6.) Dried 24-hours and unmasked and reassembled.
7.) Will post final pics after installation.
This is great, well done. Can you break down how much you’ve spent in replacement parts and materials so far? Whatever it is it’s worth it. Kudos to you!

$170 for the shifter plate from Suncoast and another $40 or so in supplies. All in a touch over $200.
Looks awesome - thanks for the detailed instructions. I believe folks like paintscratch.com offer spray cans, for others who want to do this but don’t have an auto paint shop nearby.
FOLLOW UP: Done and installed myself with some help from others on another thread. Here it is all done. Def. was worth it. All total around $200 invested in parts/materials. Couple of things. I did not have to take the carbon trim off because the shifter bezel pulls straight up and presses back on. As long as it's lined up you won't have any issues or worries of scratching the carbon trim ring. Used the tool below in the pic to get in the shifter hole and lifted up on it and it popped right out. Hardest part was disconnecting the dang clip for the hazard/door locks switch. Used the mini screwdriver in the pic to slightly lift the connector over the notched hump so it would slide out. This saved me a ton of time not having to go to the dealer (220 mile round trip). Not to mention the satisfaction of a job well done. I love it. Time now to find something else to mod/obsess over - lol.
