Default Mental Health Day

Earlier this week I was looking at my schedule for the rest of the year and realized - I am pretty much booked with commitments and travel till 2020! A “down” day was needed before the storm hits.

It was a beautiful day, started around 45degrees and warmed up to mid-70s. Sunny all day.I got the kids out the door and jumped in the car around 8. Swung by the neighborhood coffee shop for some caffeine. It is a fantastic shop and lucky to have nearby. The owner supports our local Cars and Coffee.

Left the coffee shop and headed to Montgomery Bell Park for a morning hike.

Arrived at the park around 9am and started on a 10-mile loop. It was my first time here - so I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was a moderate trail with nothing too challenging - only got lost once. A couple of nice views but mostly wooded trail. Only saw two other people out there. It was a good hike to clear the mind and get lost in thought.

I finished the hike around 12 and was ready for some lunch. Headed to Dickson TN - had not been here before (Recently moved to TN) and thought I would check out the little town. I was pleasantly surprised! I had a great lunch (salmon sliders, plantain chips, and a much-needed beer) followed by some delicious homemade ice cream. After chatting with a couple of locals - I decided to head out on the “Drive”.

Heading south out of Dickson you can pick up 48 which has some great sweepers, hairpins, and climbs. Didn’t get any pics here - was too focused on having fun! (And don’t need any incriminating evidence ) Followed 48 to some more twisty back roads and then over to the Natchez Parkway. The parkway is a beautiful road with no traffic. Turned on my favorite tunes, cruised with the windows down and took it all in. (PS: If you have not heard the new Sturgill Simpson album - its a must. More rock & roll than his previous country albums. It was on repeat most of the day in the car.)

After the parkway, I swung by my favorite general store right outside Leiper's Fork. It doesn’t look like much for outside but its a hidden gem. Another cup of coffee and I couldn’t resist their Cinnabon (I hiked 10 miles - I get two desserts?!? ) ( The cinnabons are made on-site and just amazing!). FYI - the General Store is for sale… If I was closer to retirement - I know what I would be doing.

Obligatory wing meal pic.

From there I hit my favorite backroads till I got home around 4. More shenanigans and perma-grin on my face.

It was a fantastic day and just what was needed! If anyone else takes a “mental health” day - please post below. While we can’t always get away from the desk/home it is a nice escape through trip reports.

Cheers!

My Touring is a perfect drug for all the stresses of life. Love the Gray! It was my second color choice.

Great thread and pics. I try and do this a couple times per year. Go out on a couple hour drive, get lost and then turn the navigation on to get home.

What I’ve really discovered about this car is that it demands your full attention. Once you get in, all the other stuff fades out. The car becomes an instrument and it wraps around me. I took my GT3 out last Saturday on a little jaunt and had a blast.

Amazing photos! Relaxation is so important. When we relax, the flow of blood increases around our body giving us more energy. It helps us to have a calmer and clearer mind which aids positive thinking. I had some problems with drugs because i didn't know how to relax and have fun without them. https://addictionresource.com//drug-rehab/locator/ - if you also need mental health help.

We have to protect mental health just as carefully as our physical health. If you think about it, our mental health is quite fragile. I have a good example of a man who did not spare his psychological state, and by the end of his days, he had partial cerebral palsy. That example is my mother. I take care of her on my own. It's pretty hard to get used to the idea that your mother is crazy, but you get used to it. It's harder to learn how to take care of her properly. At one time, I got some help with that from homecareassistance.com. I was able to find really useful and effective tips there. It allowed me to make the last years of my mom's life a little happier.

Love this thread. Will try to make a MH day report once I get my 911 back from paint correction and ceramic coating.

Let’s keep this going, and OP, please chime in with another detailed report if you have one as it was very encouraging and enjoyable to read.
