HaHa good luck with that. The C clip will hold better without paste in the groove but almost impossible to do.

What’s the official word on how often this tear down and cleaning should be done?

I think you only have to do it when it takes too much or too little torque to loosen (numbers are in the instruction in the thread). I think I waited two years for my first time. Doing annually probably wouldn’t be a mistake if you change wheels often.
