Give me the hydraulic steering of the 997.2 RS and everything else, the 991.2 GT3 in manual.

I think no one really gets the full experience of the 991.2 GT3 unless they remove the side mufflers at least. The car is extremely tame and muffled with the full stock system, imo. Mine was stock for the first 400 miles. Then put the Dundon Race headers for 400 miles. Went back to the full stock system, and the car felt anemic. I hated it. Then put the race headers back on and loved the car. Really changes the whole car.

100% agree. I would not enjoy my car nearly as much without my JCR race pipe. I kept my exhaust stock for 3 months and would never go back to stock.

I think you could DD either of the cars if you really wanted to. Any Porsche 911 can be a DD, so just choose which one you love most and drive it all the time

I DD my 991.2 3rs, it is very comfortable. I honestly think the people here who say a 997.X 3/rs are just wrong think that those are so far off to be "toys" and not be driven all the time. Still VERY much a modern Porsche. 997 is a land yacht compared to a 993, they are tame compared to a Ferrari, 993 is a land yacht compared to a 356, it goes on forever and remember people used to DD those 356's! Carrera GT, Ferrari enzo stradale scuderia, yeah those are not DD's to today's standards. Any modern 911 fill in the blank is...that's what makes them the best imo

I mean u got a model T, 356 speedster, a 250 GTO, and a carrera GT in your garage all brand new....Which one is ur daily now? hahahaha it is ALL relative

Remember Miles are Smiles

If only room for one, then it's a 997 RS for me.

haha, I have more than one of each 991.1gt3/rs 991.2gt3/rs/t. if you add up all the 991.1gt variant out 25k miles, 991.2gt variant 15k miles
they are great cars.
and better performance than 997
but did not make my top 10 list and I am out of parking spaces
then again, I am buying crap long hoods and 914/6
YMMV

you know it
and the 964RS is the real deal
u need a 993RS back again

Choose 991-R or 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0, these are the true keepers.

After the mandatory rear diff upgrade, you need absolutely the hydraulic magical steering wheel feel.
YES

You really need to feel the weight and feedback in the steering wheel.
I miss that.
totally agree

u should have driven one of randy's or john's old **** box early cars. slow as hell and scary as hell.
997 trans are such POS.
each shift is a challenge
and that clutch... as you know, I just blew mine $7K
BUT I am into S&M. I need the pain
991 is not a dominatrix. she's good, but after first climax, I fall asleep.
997, if I fall asleep she whips me until I get it up again...

The new RS has the e-diff and RWS. I don’t feel RWS, but because the massive front grip (Even much more so in the 991.2RS where they really perfected the e-diff, RWS) the car doesn’t need to be trail brakes as much. The electric steering is very precise and gives just enough feedback for the new systems to be able to do what they do. The massive downforce also makes for crazy Gforces and there’s a lot of fun in that also.
the high speed stuff is sticky with that wing.
the tight stuff no longer need much correction or counter steer or trail... I think the RWS is doing its thing. very amazing.

RIGHT ON. and THAT is it's strongest and also weakest point.

^^^Yes

Mooty: so much more succinct and entertaining than any of my wordy and boring attempts. You are an RL poet.

Yes, I am running their race pipe. I went for a drive at midnight last night because I was craving the sound. It is that good.

Thanks for all the input; lots of differing opinions as expected but more interesting to understand everyone’s rationale. To this point, I have great respect for the 991.2 GT3 and the way Porsche has married a fantastic driving machine with practicality and day to day livability; however, it doesn’t feel quite like the scalpel it once was (996/997). Will have to test drive a 997.2 RS back to back with mine; hopefully, the decision will be clear that point. Someone also mentioned swapping out the exhaust- currently have the SW center bypass with the SOUL side bypasses coming- perhaps that will help swing the pendulum toward keeping the the 991.2.

Don't forget. 997 RS last of the best. If you want a car that will be relevant for ever that's the car.

If you want a wonderful car that will be less wonderful after the 992 GT comes out. Then 991 checks a temporary box.

Good luck on your decision. It's a great position to be in.
