Thanks for all the input; lots of differing opinions as expected but more interesting to understand everyone’s rationale. To this point, I have great respect for the 991.2 GT3 and the way Porsche has married a fantastic driving machine with practicality and day to day livability; however, it doesn’t feel quite like the scalpel it once was (996/997). Will have to test drive a 997.2 RS back to back with mine; hopefully, the decision will be clear that point. Someone also mentioned swapping out the exhaust- currently have the SW center bypass with the SOUL side bypasses coming- perhaps that will help swing the pendulum toward keeping the the 991.2.

I’ve owned a 991.2 GT3, 997 GT3, 997 Turbo and a 993. They’re all so different. To echo some of what’s already been said:
991.2 has been the best daily. Engine tame and torquey down below, crazy up top. Steering good but not as direct as the 997 GT3 or 993. On the other hand, a much more livable daily driver clutch. Manual transmission is great. Worlds better than both 997 variants I’ve owned.
997 GT3 is just on all the time. But I found the clutch punishing on anything but the twisties and out of traffic. And it was like trying to ride a bulldog all the time. Fun when you want to be on your toes all the time. But not something I could drive everywhere and all the time.
997 Turbo, I wanted to love it. But, clutch too light/numb. Steering as well. Was a good Porsche but not one I loved.
993 is an air cooled. So different. Slower and arguably not as good in many ways. But, different and from another era. Love the nostalgia.
You have to decide what you really want out of your cars. They’re all so different that it should be easy to choose if you’re true to what you’re about.
For me, a car that’s driven more often is the best of all. And Porsche’s for me are about a manual. My choice is the 991.2 GT3. It’s the one I’d want to and feel I could drive every day. And, for contrast (because that’s what life is about, no?), the 993. Smells, feels, looks and drives so different. They will never be like those cars again (I was in my teens in the 90’s, so that generation has a certain aura for me).
I find myself wanting to add older cars these days. I’ve started eyeing 964’s and long hoods...

The GT3, especially the current easy, slick manual-3 would have been a great car when I lived in Houston or any driving city. Living in London and NYC has changed the cars I go for. I'm either in something that is borderline full-contact curb hopper or I want to be in something that is a no-compromise, max thrill driving event. So the plain 3 doesn't do it as much for me anymore. If I moved to a place that i hopped in a car in my house's garage, the touring or manual 3 would make a fun daily when weather isn't awful. So it's RS or nothing for me these days: 964, 997, 991 (997 probably always being my fav).
