Default Numeric Racing Short Throw Shifter for 991.2 Manual GT3

About 2 years ago I picked up a Numeric Racing Short Throw Shifter for a 2017 991.2 C2S Cab. It was a complete game changer on that car as there was so much slop in the stock shifter. At first the Numeric shifter was a bit stiff but after 500 or so miles it really came into its own and was just sublime. After I sold that car, I kept the shifter thinking I may use it on my GT4, but never got around to installing it and decided to keep it and try it on the GT3 Touring once it arrived. I have not run across any significant reviews of people installing these on the .2 manual GT3s, so I thought I'd post up a few thoughts as I installed it earlier today.

Most of us that have driven the .2 manuals know how amazing of an experience it is combining a manual transmission with that amazing 4.0L engine. Well, the Numeric shifter took it to another level. It really is amazing how much cleaner and smoother of a shift it provides between gears and being a tad shorter is great too. I would say the jump from my the stock Touring shifter to the Numeric shifter is on par with the difference between the stock 991.2 CS2 shifter and the GT4 or Touring shifter. I can't recommend it enough. Install is super easy, less than an hour, and all you need is a Torx 25 driver. Numeric Racing has a satisfaction guarantee, so I highly recommend trying it. By the way, I have no affiliation with them. I am just super happy with this product in my new Touring.

Thanks for the review. Did you find the Numeric required much more effort to move the shifter through the gates?

Since your install time was so short, I assume you didn’t bother with their cables?

Initially, very much so. Mainly going from 2nd to 1st, but not so much the other gates. After a few hundred miles it settled in and is just perfect for me. The resistance to each gate feels equal and is not detrimental in any way. I'd say its maybe 15% more than stock. I did not do the cables. Maybe down the road.

I can't get over how crazy it is to be manually shifting a car at between 8k-9k rpms. Going from a GT4 to a new GT3RS last fall, I really missed the manual transmission despite how amazing the RS is in every way. I kinda lucked into the Touring allocation and am selling the RS. Amazing car, just not a great fit for me.

Installed the shifter and cables in my .2GT3, with the softer spring option.

It is an unmitigated improvement, in my opinion. Shift effort is maybe 5% greater, but the throws are shorter and rifle-bolt affirmative in action. All slop is gone. Feels more mechanical but no less smooth. Much more vibration flows through the shift ****; you can really feel the drivetrain in the palm of your hand.

Close to a must-have in a car that is supposed to be all about shifting for yourself.

I've tried the stiffer spring option, Bob. It was a bit too stiff for my liking, especially from neutral. Much prefer the softer of the two options. Feels like it's a better match for the 991.2 GT3 with lighter clutch.

As I've written elsewhere, the stock shifter felt like a sloppy mess after getting used to the Numeric in my GT3. Highly recommended. Considering changing linkage as well.

what’s the deal with the cables? See myself ordering the shifter this week. Should i Install cables as well? Do it once, do it right and be done? Thx

Maybe I’m the odd man out - but had the numeric shifter in my. 991.1 S and did not like it.

Yes. It was rifle bolt action but it was way to stiff. Always wanted to center itself compared to OEM which was more intuitive when selecting the next gear.

I had to think about any shift going across the gate. (3 to 2, 4th to 5th etc) cause lever was always trying to pull itself back to center. The OEM just fell into the gear.

I am very happy with the GT3 shifter.

Wow, considering that the GT3 Manual is my 10/10 in manual transmission in terms of accuracy, feel and action.

Are you sure that the Short shifter is that much better than stock? I just can’t imagine it can be any better

Also did you try to power-shift? Any issues going from 1-2 and 2-3 without lifting the throttle?

Did you also swap out cables?
