wish I saw this is a month ago!. Should be easy to find someone to make this trade.

So what's the verdict on the clear coat? Seems like its a toss up on whether to go with it or not. I'm leaning towards doing something on the clear and maybe then doing a ceramic coat afterwards? Maybe doing the soft clear on the clearcoat?

That more or less aligns with the quotes I'm getting down here in San Diego.

You can get a clear coat that matches the sheen (so a Satin Clear).

ok, i ordered some swatches on a lighter color because i think the walts gold is too gold. Here is what i ordered. I'll post the swatches when i get them. Trying to get the white gold look.

I tried no clear coat and it was awful. The base coat is almost porous and really difficult to clean. With the clear coat (i'd recommend satin) it was very easy to clean. For me clear coat is mandatory. I will never make that expensive mistake again...

So quick update - I ended up ordering Aurum wheels from Porsche (they offered to make a one off set), so here are the swatches compared to what comes from the factory (fresh off the pallet!)

First picture, top is Poly Satin, bottom is Walt's.

2nd picture - Poly Satin left, Walts Right. Also, maddeningly, the center caps seem slightly off.

Honestly I'm not sure you'd go wrong either way.

On a side note - has anyone tried ceramic coating their satin finish wheels? I've got some CQuartz UK 3.0 leftover from the coating I just did on the rest of the car, wondering if I should apply it to the virgin finish or if it'd make it look funny.

Thanks for the update ! Super helpful for sure. I’m doing my roll bar and wheels I’m Walt’s gold eventually to replicate Aurum as well on my cayman. Should be the perfect accent color when I wrap the car metallic grey, metallic black or midnight metallic purple…. Decisions decisions !

I picked up an extra set of OEM wheels and am having them powder coated Sutter's Gold, and adding a clear coat. Initially I was going to go straight satin, but with my car being super shiny gloss black with gloss trim, I decided not to go the standard satin.
Here is a link to a Spider with Sutter's Gold clear coat applied:
https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/...91-speedster-4

If you look at the close-up wheel pics you can see the sheen.
If I don't like them can always do again. Am keeping my OEM gloss black wheels for the track.

I ended up doing my wheels in Satin Titanium from Prismatic. 2 coats of Satin Clearcoat on top.
