I believe this is old news. Check the GT4 sub forum.

Old post from 2016.

https://rennlist.com/forums/gt4/9250...tle-gt4-2.html

And for the record, Sharkwerks statement is incorrect, they are isolated. Reminds me of the dreaded 'IMS Bearing failure' in the 996(non-turbo models) where everyone's cars were seconds away from blowing up according to the forums, when in reality it was very few.

Sorry I have to disagree. I've read the entire GT4 post as well as spoken to local shops and even a dealer near me. This is a real issue happening more frequently than you think. Just think about the percent of owners vs. those who are actually on this board and/or posting on social media. It's happening to track cars, street cars, modded suspensions, and stock suspensions. All you need is a bad day and a pothole and you'd be asking why it happened to you.

Respectfully, It does't matter if you agree or not. Fact is, I'm up here in the northeast where the terrain and weather is some of the worst in the country and it's just not a common issue.

I think you are making the case for most of us in the NE relative to our driving habits:
1) After December 1st do not drive your car at night - can't see the potholes
2) Don't drive in rain at night - same reason as 1 above.
3) Wait for the road repairs - sometime in May
4) The salt will kill the car prematurely.

Whether it be GT cars or other 911's, the NE is a very harsh environment. Just not worth driving it from December 1 to May 1. I once read that the roads in NJ are responsible for $3,200 in suspension, tire and wheel damage annually per motor vehicle registered.

The sharkwerks post claims this is happening to 991 gt3s and gt4s. But yes to my knowledge this is a gt3 forum.

It seems like there's only maybe one or two 991 GT3(RS)'s that have had that issue, one from a crash into a curb, the second of unknown cause. But the fact that there are at least 4 GT4's in that thread that have had the failure is fairly alarming given that around 2000-ish were produced for the United States. That would make for a roughly 1 in 500 chance of a catastrophic failure that could lead to a serious crash.

I'd tend to agree that it doesn't seem like it affects GT3's and RS's given that a lot more of those have been produced than GT4's and to date there's only been two examples I've seen on Rennlist. Something to be aware of for now for GT3 owners, but alarming for GT4 owners.

After seeing all the GT3/RS 991 cars hauling around Sebring I’m not worried about my car.
