Default 991.2 GT3 Touring - TPMS “Race Circuit” mode

Hello fellow wingless brothers.

When my car was delivered a year ago it had the “race circuit” mode in TPMS, just like on the winged cars, and it worked fine. A few months ago car went in for some recall, and they updated the software and the mode was no longer available. I raised it with the dealer and after 2 months of umming and erring they came back with “Touring cars were never meant to have it”. This is happening with my UK car. I am wondering if anybody else had any similar experiences?

I think this is absurd, a GT3 is a GT3, and the car’s internals clearly have this option, it’s only disabled through software. Provided this feedback to Porsche UK, but not sure it’ll be meaningful.

This is Touring only, as winged cars are allowed to have this option turned on.

Don't think may Touring has “race circuit” mode (US car). How did you access it? What does it do?

In the instrument cluster cycle the right screen to Tyre Pressure Monitor screen, then go into options on that screen. Could/should be there!

On track you typically reduce tyre pressures and when tires cool off between sessions the TPMS will start pinging away, telling you you’ve got 4 flats. Race Circuit mode changed the “OMG FLAT TIRE’’ parameter in TPMS, so you didn’t get warning messages all day.

My winged GT3 has it.
The touring cars apparently are supposed to be programmed without it. It’s a distinction between a traditional GT3 that is a street car for the track and a touring GT3 which is just a street car. I would be worried about race circuits and that car with no proper GT3 wing for aero!

ok, kidding a little, but if I had a Touring I wouldn’t be worried about it.

My Touring does have it! On my US car, it says "Race track." I autox my car and have had the TPMS warn me after adjusting pressures. Will definitely use that next time!

I think your dealer is simply giving you BS because they don't know. I guess UK dealers are no different than US dealers...A GT3 is a GT3.

I suggest you contact Porsche UK, and see what they have to say.

There is a Race Track setting within TPMS that is at issue. All Porsches have TPMS for the last 13 model years (by law)

A Touring 911 with a GT3 engine should not be allowed on a racetrack, not with that differential, not with those springs, and definitely not with a missing wing.

A GT3 is a GT3. An RS is an RS. A Touring is a touring car, not a GT3, not an RS.

All GT3s have wings since 1998.

The 911 R is that, an R not a GT3, no idea why Porsche placed a GT3 badge on a another run of the 911 with a GT3 engine inside.

Chevy puts a Corvette engine inside the Camaro 1LE, they don't call it Camaro Grand Sport or Camaro Z06. Mercedes puts the AMG GTR engine inside the C and E class, they don't call them E-GTR or C-GTR.

What's next, 911 Touring owners asking for a Pit-Speed button? The Porsche/iPhone TrackApp? a Sport Chrono? how to install a full cage?

Same differential and springs as GT3 - and it has a wing too (retractable). I opted for the fixed wing version, but Touring should be just as capable as Winged on a race track, except for the few tracks that have very high speed corners (none of those near where I live...)

My 2018 GT3 Touring had the Race Circuit mode and I used it on the track at least a couple of times. Then, after the software upgrade performed during the first annual service last year, the function disappeared from the TPMS menu. Just took the car in for the second annual service and raised the issue with service rep. His answer to me: “this function is only available on GT2 RS”. I told him that my GT4 had it, this GT3T had it and disappeared after the upgrade, and the owner’s manual shows the function being available (even told him the page number for him to see it). Still, he continued to insist that the function was only available on the GT2 RS (and that’s how he disposed of my complaint on the service invoice). He is saying this because the owner’s manual that came with my GT3T is the combined owner’s manual for GT2 RS and GT3 (WKD 991 07 21 18) vs the stand alone manual for the GT3 (WKD 991 06 21 18 - thanks The Pope for the PDF version). I will now elevate this issue to PCNA...let’s see what they say...by the way, my car is a US car.

I had the function from new but after scheduled service (and probably SW-updates) it is no longer there... I know I had it because it was a very bad translation of "Circuit" to my language in the display, basically saying "Circumference"
