Why, for heaven's sake, would you ruin the gorgeous lines of a modern 911, whether it be a GT3 (since this is a GT3 forum) or not, just to make it look like a classic but outdated model? It would ruin those sleek modern lines, ruin the form and function of said lines and decrease performance, and belittle all the engineering that went into it. Rather than homage to the 2.7 RS, adding that ducktail would be an insult to the modern 911. I am sorry guys, but i would go "WOW" to a 2.7RS, but I would go "YUCH" to a 991 with a ducktail.
That's all IMO, and we know we all have one. I just had to say it.
Your point is a valid one. The issue is rear downforce. Since it is necessary, IMHO, the fixed duck looks way better than the mechanically opening spoiler. Always reminded me of someone who forgot to close their trunk.
My previous 2014 991S with duck tail. Personally I loved it and received numerous compliments.
For me; GT3 Wing > Duck Tail > and at at a very distant third... Mechanical Spoiler
I love the idea of the Touring but I really don't care for the mechanical spoiler on these cars. And it looks like its not getting any better on the 992...
I think a GT3 Touring + duck tail would look amazing.
I have been wanting the same but using the RS Duck Tail. The problem is that the 991.1 requires a PIWIS III and no one has one yet around me to disable the factory wing. Has anyone tired these guys, http://www.wickedmotorworks.com!
If there was a one piece ducktail that would replace the one piece GT3 lid and wing, that would be very tempting. I like the picture of the white GT3 with the ducktail, looks great

If I were to get an RS, I'll just leave the big wing at home and only put it on when I head to the track. Car looks awesome w/o it, so mean yet understated.

Agreed, there are quite a few pictures of them wingless and they look fantastic.
Some are saying it fits the 991.2, and have done it and have pictures and instructions.
Some say it fits but requries a mounting kit.
Against doing it:
May cause downforce issues. Is the downforce the same, less than, or more than GT3 touring's spoiler?
May cause intake issues. From this thread: The reason the sport design kit for the 991.2 doesn't have a "real" ducktail is because it interferes with the additional air intake needed for the intercoolers in the 991.2.
Is this possible intake issue a concern for the GT3 touring if a ducktail is fitted?
Also, does the brake wiring indeed work with the 991.2?
And why does the spoiler need to be coded out? It simply wont be there, not sure what coding helps change if anything. Why does the car care if it thinks the wing is there or not (what parameters will be impacted)?

As for concerns the difference in down force is be negligible when compared to non-winged cars. I remember those that were so dead set that if the AOA of the GT4 wing was not balanced unless you removed the under body pieces in the front to balance would be ruined which is silly. A good example is how would the 911R or Touring would not fly off the road without the base GT3's rear wing since there were no changes in the front end.
You are 100% right about the 991.2, the intercoolers are fed by creating a high pressure zone ahead of the flip up spoiler blocking this would be a big problem. The GT3 pulls air from the scoops/grill in the rear hatch so it would have some impact but much less than the turbo models. I would be willing to lose a few HP to benefit from the styling change though I can't imagine this is a popular opinion. Another way to look at it is if it was good enough for the N/A 991.1 then it is good enough for the N/A GT3's.
I would guess that the brake wiring would be quite easy to modify even if a patch harness and relay was required.
So there are (2) schools of thought here the first is that you leave wing actuator and remove the linkage, ie it still moves but is not hooked to anything. The other is to recode the ECM using PIWIS III using Engineering mode to code the spoiler as a winged car so as to clear the code electronically. I personally like the idea of removing the linkage so as to ease the transition back to OEM in the event the car was put up for sale or you wanted a change.
Thanks for kicking up this thread, if you have any details on those that have tested I would be interested to read their threads.
