Update ****
Nothing new to report unfortunately. All we know is that the car went south yesterday evening. The bridge is a toll bridge with cameras etc. Not sure if the cameras only register license plates or the driver too...
We know a lot more of the early movements of the car. It is rather interesting trying to do basic police work.
Also nice to experience how helpful people are.

IMO that is for personal defense and for me that means protecting my family, ie when your life is being threatened. This is best case scenario - guys got in and left. Someone whois actually going to get in your house, who knows what they will do. I imagine if you heard them and came running with your 1911 you could start a shootout in your house, for me not worth it for any car. If you hear people get with your family and prepare to defend yourself if they are after you, but if they get distracted and go after a shiny red car then that is best case IMO. Glad you and your family are ok
Also this thread has been helpful for me as much as I wish it didn't exist in terms of reassessing how I can secure both my cars etc, good advice in here

This just sucks. Really sorry to hear Kobalt.
In live in Los Angeles, the "car theft capital of the world" and its just maddening how many 911s are ripped off here.
On the garage door thing, super common issue to sick a coat hanger with a hook on end and catch the emergency release to open the garage door ( you pull it towards the door).d

I hope there is a happy outcome..I'm lucky as i live in the middle of a large farm with three sides bordered by a steep impassable wooded valley. The only point of entry is along my long drive and i have an automated security gate at public road end..To get within 500m of my garage they would need to smash through my gate and even then i have very noisy strategically positioned dogs..
