Look up just a few posts for a shot of one of the other mules. It has the intercooler outlets already. What we are seeing is them being taped up, for which there are only two possible reasons: 1) for making sure aerodynamics are roughly correct or 2) Porsche is intentionally messing with people trying to imply this car is not using a turbo, which so far could only be a GT3 since the rest of the lineup is all turbo already.

Let it sink in--someone actually had to go and put tape/cladding over those areas, as it's clear it is a new prototype bumper which they are using on all these mules so the intercooler vents are there to start with. They spent time/care to cover them up. If it was a turbo, wouldn't this affect performance significantly (overheating) even during testing?

Yay!!! different wheels....all cars should come with this option (joking)....lol

Normal people on the street seeing this are wondering, this Porsche guy can't afford to get full set of rims. Lol

I still hate these Centerlock wheels. Porsche loves forcing these rims down to our throats

I think this is a GTS... And it clearly is Turbo by the video clip.

Sorry, not a GT3 Touring, IMO.

Best Regards,
Dave

Can you link to the video clip you are talking about? The one with the vents looks/sounds like a turbo. In the original post which is what all the speculation in this thread is about, it shows a 911 with all the intercooler vents 100% blocked off. If there is video of THAT car I'd like to see it.

I can't tell if this thread is filled with people mixing up the 5-6 different mule variants which are out there or if it's Porsche plants trying to intentionally sow confusion.

Neither of the two video clips posted in this thread so far are of the subject car.

And I actually do hope it is a GTS--just with the 4.0 from the current GT3 and a manual. In that case, let the GT3 go turbo for all I care. I think chopping the wing off a GT3 is pretty dumb in the first place...to me the GTS is close to perfect as a car to enjoy if it just gets the 4.0 and the 6-speed.

For complete clarity:

The point is, since they already obviously have vents on them, why cover them up? There is either a non-turbo engine in there, or they are intentionally just trolling this forum and everyone who follows this stuff. Which doesn't really make sense, because if anything they should be trying to hint that NA engines are over with to keep the hype high for the tail end of the 991 generation.

I agree. If the only available bumper tools are the ones for Carreras at a certain point in the development project, which is highly likely with the GT3 planned for later intro, you fit those bumpers on your GT3 prototype and be done with it. What would the downside be of having open vents? As a bonus, which has been pointed out - you can lean back and watch current and future GT3 owners loose their $hit.

Here’s my guess:

They have build one large cover to “fit-all” development car bumpers, which covers “the whole” bumper.

On the turbo variants they simply cut off the section that reveals the air vents,
while on the NA they didn’t need to cut.

I think it’s as simply as that.

If they didn't need to cut - why the tape/covering up?

To hide the new 992 bumper?

The one already clearly visible and virtually non-camouflaged since months? Again, what would be the point?

Not everyone is following forums or other car media on a regular basis.

first will come 992 C2, C4, Cabs and Targas (Q4 2018) i guess with 991.2 engines
with 992.2 i could imagine Hybrid stuff (like Panameras) for the 992 911īs

how long will 991.2 stay for production?
who has GT production dates after tomorrow for EU models?
tomorrow is D-Day regarding Euro6d / WLTP - but i heard already from exception regulation; in Germany... but as soon one country within EU - there is a possible loophole for all EU...

such a big *** could be for something: Whats about the 992/Lambo/R8 platform?
Will we see mid engines 992 GTīs?

@Gauss: What I mean is: In a car development project you have different levels of secrecy, decreasing the closer you come to production. First the cars are not allowed out on public roads at all. Then they can go out but with heavy camouflage or even fake body panels (an example is visible above, covering the front part of the rear lights). After that they need maybe only this confusing black/white pattern wrapping. And then they go out virtually unmasked, only with bagdes covered up or removed.

We can safely assume that a 992 GT3 will be introduced (a lot) later than the C, C2, C4 etc. A GT3 prototype should therefore be more "disguised" if it was built as a C, C2, C4, with the same bumper that has been used on much earlier 992 prototypes. Here, someone has taken the active measure to alter such a bumper, for some reason. And it is this I don't understand. The GT3 prototype would fly more under the radar with the C, C2, C4 bumper than what is now the case.
