Now I'm getting mis-fires. Engine light and RED reduced power message. at 17,000 miles. Only one track day in 2016

They did 'swaptronics' with coil, and spark plugs at the dealer.. Replaced the spark plugs, Then said there was carbon build up on the ports. So had those ports cleaned by a german mechanic.

After driving. The engine light and reduced power light came back on. Took to mechanic and he said there is a 'misfire' codes so recommended take to the dealer.

Called dealer and asked about the 120,000 warranty related to mis-fires and finger follower.

He said they would look at it and have the tech figure i out. I

asked him specifically what the warranty says. He said it's 11 pages and covers 86 parts.

I'm not sure if this misfire problem is related to the finger-follower/cam issue, or something else.

If it is, it sounds like the cam will wear, and those small metal parts will circulate thru the engine which is not good.

I just hope i don't have to argue this back and forth with the dealer. If it needs a new engine and they try to get out of it, or have me spend $10k in diagnostics befire they figure it out.

please advise if you have any information.

ty.
If it is the finger follower issue or other internal engine failure Porsche should replace the engine under the extended engine warranty.

This is a long thread but the early posts cover the issue basics and late posts include some owner experiences with replacement: https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-...ouncement.html

Here is the text of the letter on the warranty that owners of record received at the time. https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-...ty-update.html

I've not heard of an 11 page document on the engine warranty but maybe that is a dealer internal document. My suggestion would be to refer to the letter and insist on coverage.

Yes.
Took it back to the dealer. They noticed wear on the cams. Took pictures and sent to PCNA.
PCNA said replace the engine. They just replaced the engine.

Interesting. They had engines in the US and got it done in a week.

My concern is. Sure got the engine replaced at 17k (2nd time) on a 2014. Engine warranty good for 10 years. So in 2024 if this happens again I'm out of warranty.
I might be better off selling car now with the fresh engine. I myself don't track the car and dont want to deal with this again in 2024.

Might Be good car for a track guy. Drive the heck out of it for another 100k on the track till 2024.

Id really like to just get a refund. I've never heard of a car that needs 2 engines after 17k miles. Seems like a Lemon. Is there any Lemon laws I could use to get a full refund? How would I go about it.

thx

Lemon laws vary by state. I'd suggest searching on the local law to see if you meet the conditions. There may be services that assist, for a price of course.

Likely, it does not appear to be.

It’s not a lemon, the 2nd engine was likely still an E or F series, same stuff that everybody is subjected to.

You have a good one in there now.

Exactly. From early 2018 and on, all engines had the new parts. I have not seen one report of the new engines failing. That reminds me. I need to drive mine more. I only have about 4.5 years left of warranty. My 2015 F engine runs strong so i doubt mine was impacted. But just in case....

Old Engine (2nd) was E (E10653), this one is a G. (G60777).
Hopefully 'G' is a good one. Wonder if good one means 991.2. What did they finally figure out. My MC does 14,000k RPM all day 5k race track miles and is actually FAST. This car seems car seems like a joke

Yes, you will see this stamped on top of the motor (F01261). Unfortunately, you can't see it unless the motor is out.

Mine failed (misfire) due to the finger follower issue, I now have a corrected "G" series motor. For more info check this thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-...l#post16517207
