For reference if you want to hear loud go drive a 997.2 GT3. Now that is loud. The 991.2 is rather quiet in comparison.

Several people have commented that it didn't need to be louder. My winged GT3 has a great sound but isn't really that loud.

Yup, and it comes down to your personal tolerance/preference. I have 900 miles on my Touring and I'm not bothered by the sound one bit. And I've spoken to several Touring owners who feel the same way. Does that mean it won't bother you? Most likely, but you may be like some of the other vocal members on RL. Plus, you are also handicapped with the fact that you are thinking about this now so you may be more aware of it when you get the car...perception bias. With that said, if you're 50/50 about touring vs wing, safe bet would be to go with the wing.

My two-cents...

Get over the belief that the wing and the houndstooth are related in any way... it's more about your build... classic vs modern and nothing to do with wing versus Touring.

Do not let this sway your decision making.

Also, do not let the noise factor sway your decision making.

Buy the GT3 that you fits your taste/personality best.

Just test drove a GT3T. Have one on order and wanted to put my mind at rest. It’s everything I’d hoped: not too loud, great steering feel, instantly responsive . The only quibble I have is the mapping @4250 rpm when an intake butterfly opens... takes a very light touch on the throttle to smooth out the transition.
Other than that, it’s perfect for me.

I have driven it at speed on the autobahn and wouldn't have noticed a slight drone unless I had looked for it because of what I've read on here. Not a single one of the people I've had in it have ever mentioned anything either.

^this. Didn’t notice any drone at all for the first 800 miles. Then read the comments on RL and noticed it the next time I drove because I was trying to listen to it. 5 minutes lates...forgot about it. It’s seriosuly a non-issue in my mind. But then again, I fell like people often make a big deal out of small things so we each have different tolerance levels.

UPDATE: my GT3T arrived 10 days ago and I’ve driven it 1150 break- in miles. ITS LOUD!
(so being an avid motorcyclist I just pop in foam earplugs for extended aggressive sessions)

It’s worth every decibel...

GT3 is the sweetest sounding production car i have ever heard. It is just intoxicating. Enjoy it.

The sound is fantastic and enjoyable. As to the volume, it shouldn’t bother anyone in the car but it will get you black flagged for excessive “noise” at Lime Rock on days when they are being strict....absolutely factory stock.

To loud?
Not a chance! I found it to quiet, so added a center by-pass and then disconnected the exhaust valves. Now it's just right!!

Changed my mind on my thinking about the houndstooth only looking good on touring cars. My chalk winged GT3 will be here in two months and I’ll immediately install my 911R seat centers and center bypass.
