yep!
I purchased the "sandwich shelf" from sun coast a while back with intention to install in my GTS....but then got an allocation for my GT3 and decided to keep radio in my GTS since my GF will be driving it more and she's not as dumb as me
if the car is a meant as a weekend toy car, I recommend it.....but if you drive it a lot/daily, then removing radio is silly lol
my GT3 is purely a toy....no need for a radio. don't miss PCM one bit.
here's a picture of me testing it out:
I'd guess that the market value of this 911R without key features is roughly $225k, close to the price of a very loaded Touring.
I tend to agree that is about all a car like that is worth. The car in question at 275m is high in my mind considering the way it is optioned. As another posted said stange story and stranger build, I would certainly second that!
From what I can tell the R market is divided in two groups.
Group one is cars like this one without stripes, buckets, and smf, that no one, especially collectors, want. (much less a Canadian import)
Group two, cars with the proper spec where the market seems to have stabilized.
This is as of today though, by next month it could be different.
Man, I haven't read the whole thread but I would definitely definitely buy a GT3 touring at $200k before an R without the SMF at $300k. The SMF is sort of the R's calling card from a driving experience perspective.. it's loud and Grindy and makes the engine spin up nicely. But without that, the R is just not that special (again, from a driving experience viewpoint).
I'd much rather go for the MUCH improved engine in the gt3 touring, more torque, more top end, just way better all around. I would not spend $100k extra on an R without it.
intelligent and agree ... wise is to buy the GT3T and a classic 911 with the extra $
I like your style neurotic! Researched adding a SMFW to this particular 911R, and it seems no sweat. Roughly $6k. Looking into whether or not it would affect warranty. So far I was told it would not but need to verify. Add buckets and you'll have a proper 911R. Stripes are a joke, unless of course they're painted. I'd simply add side stripes, skip the top stripes and enjoy!

if you can convert a 991.1RS from a PDK to manual, you can EASILY add a SMFW to the 911R.
warranty shouldn't be an issue UNLESS the SMFW caused the problem and it is up to the dealer prove causation.
once the R sells for or at sticker, I'm trading my .1GTS. not sure it will ever happen, but hey, everyone has a number lol
HIGX: Lol prefer it yes I do, haha Porsche actually put some thought into 911R decklid versus Touring. And it would pair nicely with your license plate.
It's a shame Porsche had to intentionally hold back on the Touring with less styled rear and no SMFW, etc. They let the 911R stand in the way of building the best car possible. And that's a bit of a shame.
Neurotic: It'll be interesting to see how close they come to MSRP. I believe there are roughly 20 911Rs on the market right (over 50 new and used GT3s and only a handful of Tourings). The $275k that this botched 911R possibly sold for may mark the bottom.
