Manthey Noise Turn-Down Mod
So we've all seen Estre's hot laps at the June 1 Nordschleife track day. The exhaust tips on his RY .2 RS seemed funny from a distance, and I initially thought he had a cup muffler for longevity... then someone caught this closeup shot:
And this is how it looks up close:
I'd hazard to guess Manthey sell these things (just like they do the MR kit for the .1 RS)... could be useful for folks running Laguna!

I have this type of turn down tip on my Ehresmann tuned 3.8L PDK Cayman S. Mine were supplied by Cargraphics
Try BGB?

Why not just use regular turn-pipes that would direct sound away from the sound booth?

I've cracked enough mufflers and muffler mounts that I'm thinking it makes sense to not add weight at the tips... the Manthey approach seems to make a lot of sense but the flow properties may be an issue...

So how quite is that exhaust. I have a 92 db coming up at laguna

I'm not sure, It passed a 94DB requirement at our track. But distances to the meter can vary. I know that the 'oem' setup is 98DB, My guess is this knocks off 8DB (or so) due to the ability to direct the exhaust 'away' from the meter, as well as a slight baffle inside. PM me, if you'd like to borrow them, happy to ship them to you and have you ship back after you event before you buy your own setup. I don't have any DB limiting tracks coming up for quite a few months now.
Yeah, I don't have experience with any cracked mufflers, but I only install the tips at the track and then remove them after... so the amount of 'running time' is probably 30 to 40 minutes a day maximum, and only at the one track requiring DB limits... so 99% of my muffler is running with the OEM tips.

Dave

Got them from SummitRacing, here's everything I ordered. Only exception, was a 'put two slits' in the turn downs to allow them to 'crimp/expand' as necessary:
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/dtc-780-01200
Replacement Exhaust Tailpipe from eBay: (If I had to do it over, I'd just buy a 'used one' off ebay instead)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-991-...item5686eb812a
And then qty 2, 3 1/2" Band Clamps (sorry don't have the exact link)
Torca AccuSeal Exhaust Band Clamp - 3.5" 430 Stainless Steel
Best Regards,
Dave

Hey Dave looks like you painted the tips black. Have you had any issues with the paint longevity? If not, what primer / paint didn’t you end up using? Thanks.

Fabspeed Motorsport has GT3 turndowns that bolt-onto the stock OEM GT3 factory center muffler. This is a simple doityourself installation with no lift required.
pictures on our website systems in stock. You will not loose any power with 90 degree turndowns. You will lose a signficant amount of power with exhaust disks and tips welded shut with holes cut underneath.
