The OC isn't bad either... I lived in Carlsbad for a few years and enjoyed 6AM Saturday morning dawn patrol runs to the desert, some great back roads out of Poway
Thanks for all the suggestions and I did end up driving a lot of great roads that I can't remember all the names , but they were all fantastic and almost empty
Put 800 miles on sting ray in 4 1/2 days, and for the most part sting ray was good but not close to a Porsche car
Food was also great and I did try different ethnic foods
bottom line : loved the area to the extent that I am going to make a reasonable effort to move to southern California within couple of years ,
next visit will do Turo rental and try different cars
I picked the sting ray because it was the only unlimited mileage available from Hertz exotic collection , but they do have a bunch of nice cars to chose from

The east San Diego county roads are great- awesome on a motorcycle or a car.
Anzo borrego desert runs are fantastic.
Temecula wine country has some great ones also.
Ortega highway in OC is fun in a medium powered car (anything from 350-550hp, more is dangerous)
all the LA routes are amazing.
Sierra foothill roads in fresno/ Yosemite area are fantastic.
Tons of good undiscovered tarmac for anyone.
