Le Mans 2018 (Who's going?)

Porsche (and Audi) departing LMP1 effectively have killed that class ... all the action will be in LMP2 now (which could be interesting) I suppose GTE might be of some interest but as you point out Porsche has little chance of winning that ... not even sure why Toyota are showing up!!! and all that for what is effectively "full sized" Scalextric racing - drone racing is more exciting! YAWN!

Heading there this year. Don't have any accommodations for Saturday night - plan to party all night like the rest of the Europeans and watch all 24 hours.
For all the nay-sayers about Porsche leaving LMP1, this is going to be one of the best Le Mans in a long time. The LMP2 group is on fire - a huge field this season, and provides some of the best racing action on the planet. New manufacturers have entered GTE Pro. LMP1 now has a competitive non-hybrid spec, with a chance for a privateer to win overall.
If you aren't excited about Le Mans, you have no idea what it is. But I agree, Formula E is the worst motorsport from a spectator perspective.

You might find hotels difficult/impossible in Le Mans for just a couple of nights during the week of the race. Most places will want the full week. If you can, fly in for Wednesday practice. That is also the day to go to the Mulsanne and Arnage corners - no traffic then. During the race you will spend a lot of time traffic. You will need your own transportation on Wednesday and Thursday however- the trams only runs during the race. Even with Audi and Porsche gone from LMP1, it’s still the greatest road race in the world.
I have Porsche VIP / Hospitality tickets; apparently that includes private shuttle service during the race. Adding in the trams I should be ok - hopefully?

Anyone else making the trip this year as a Porsche Hospitality guest?
I land at CDG on Thursday morning and will be at the reception in the Experience Center that night
Pits and Driver Parade Friday
Experience Center and Porsche Curves during the race (with excursions elsewhere of course)
Back to Paris Monday

I know it will be tough to leave the luxury of the Porsche hospitality, but the Indianapolis/Arnage corners are great...
Oh, and try to make reservations now for Sunday dinner - many restaurants will be closed, and the open ones are swamped!

So what is the "essence" of Porsche? I still don't understand you.
As for Formula E ... wait until all of the OEMs pour marketing and activation dollars into the series; they will want to sweat their assets and will demand the opportunity to differentiate meaningfully their cars from each other (in fact, these plans are already underway)
I'm in my 20s and most of my friends ... who are Porsche owners and/or enthusiasts in their 20s and 30s and closely follow sports car / endurance racing ... are excited about Formula E going forward

Personally I am excited for Formula E. I like motorsports and this is just another avenue. And honestly if the ICE goes away then I would rather watch EV racing than no racing. Besides everything has growing pains.
