I’ve searched without much luck so would like to get some opinions on the best mid-priced/mid-level ‘dashcam’ with GPS, etc that works well for track, (HPDE), purposes. I’m coming from the PDR that was OEM in my Z06 which was really useful, so a stand alone unit with that type of capability is what I’m sort of looking for.
Any advice appreciated.

Harry's lap timer and cell phone with stable camera is a great bang for the buck
The iPhone 6/7 vibrate a without a magnet over the camera and give a shaken look to the video without it.

Harry's Lap Timer is a great app, but the video on iPhone is a deal killer. I tried using GoPro's with data overlay from Harry's but it was a total pain. When you are at the track, the last thing you want to do is mess around with your laptop, offloading data, and trying to get the data to overlay properly with the video
Once you get to a certain level and you really want to look closely at the data, you are going to need something like AIM or Vbox. However, I do have to warn you the software for these systems are not exactly user friendly. There is learning curve. Do some Google searches for some good video tutorials.

Yeah fyi they currently have a 30 day "free trial" on their webstore, so you could buy one and try it for 30 days and return it if it sucks ...
Ive observed a few negative remarks about it:
- the mount can be a bit unstable and introduce vibrations into the video ... and since its a proprietary design ... only their mounts are suitable.
- the permanent wiring solution can be a PITA to install cleanly
- the camera itself is prone to overheating in certain situations (prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, high ambient temps...)
- getting the Bluetooth dongle to connect and stay connected can be a challenge!
not really sure how it compares to say Harry's on a good Android phone ... at $499 its expensive for a dashcam but probably quite reasonable as a solution for some track telemetry gathering

Larry, Thanks for the information on Waylens. It might change my perspective.
