R is widely regarded as one of if not the greatest Porsche road cars in recent memory. My question is how will the suspension in the new car compare? Will they feel nearly identical from the driver's seat??

I thought there was no difference in the GT3T suspension compared to the regular GT3. If so, the GT3T will be firmer than the R. There's a video out there showing back to back drives between an R and a .2 GT3 and the R is a fair bit softer.

No. I expect the GT3 Touring to run exactly the same suspension settings as the GT3...at least I have not heard any other info to make me think otherwise.

... which is also supposedly softer feeling but tighter handling than the .1 GT3. So I would expect a step up in over suspension from the R to the Touring (just like the engine).

+1 Ive seen no mention of any variation in suspension or RWS tuning on the touring vs. the "proper" GT3's ... I personally hope the f*cker hops about the road like a rabid bunny on acid, oversteering at the slightest provocation backwards into the nearest tree to destroy the abomination that is that "naked" tail!

As one might imagine just enough was changed to prohibit converting a .2 GT3 from winged to wingless.

simply have the dealers refuse to PIWIS recode any GT3 VIN that is not a touring to enable the automatic operation of the wing...

I think this was also covered in the mention (somewhere) of the touring having a different wiring harness (for the wing motor) from the proper GT3.

For starters, the differences in the suspensions are enough to justify the R's 200k price premium in-spite of the fact that the R has an inferior motor. The R owners have assured us the R is a unique experience that the touring model can't come close to matching. Drive both cars and you'll see for yourself what a bit of suspension tuning and magnesium fairy dust is all about.

I heard running similar but updated 911 GTS suspension settings so better than 911R suspension.

LOL. Thats just it. I wonder if any person or automotive journalist will have the chance to test these birds side by side. Evidently the R is about 95 lbs lighter, but I would not think they would be too different.

Let me channel my lotus "what's it weigh" ethos for a minute:

How much of that 95 lbs is AC delete (not available on GT3) and Radio Delete (option on the GT3) on the R? The mag roof and CF fenders and hood are good for some weight, sure, but the mag roof can't be that much, neither can the CF front end and shaving weight off the front is not a big priority for me in a 911 How much is the fact that the R comes standard with light weight buckets and not 4 way sport seat plus?

So does anyone know how much the following save in weight:

1. AC delete
2. Radio delete
3. Mag roof
4. CF fenders
5. LWB v. 4 ways (v. the porky 18 ways) Edit: looks like 45.8lbs v. 97.2lbs v. 128.0 lbs.

My guess is that a comparably equipped R (with AC and radio) and GT3 touring (no radio delete but with PCCBs and LWBs) will be within a fraction of that 95lbs of one another.

I have a 2018 GTS. The suspension is NOT better than any of the GT cars I've driven or own. It's actually a little bit worse ride wise than the previous gen GTS when it comes to overall day to day driving FWIW. The last gen 991.1 GT3 did have a better setup, so the new car should be even better than that.

AND it doesn't turn in as well as the GT cars. Totally different feel IMO.

100 percent. And I love my GTS but it's definitely not a GT car. Though honestly the sport cup 2s make a HUGE difference in that, but still not the same running gear.

I keep seeing conflicting reports of the suspension being the same and some say it's not the same and it's slightly softer. Has anyone found anything official?
