I had a negative reaction when I first tried on a Stilo. It pushed on the the top of my head. It was also very tight compared to the size indication. Somehow, after a journey through Roux, I ended up with one anyways, and what I've found is that the foam "breaks in" a bit, shapes to your head, and loosens. It fits completely differently now that I have used it a few times. I know people have re-ordered Stilos in a smaller size than what they originally purchased because the helmet loosened up over time, to the point of being too loose.

^^ One size larger for the Stilo helmets compared to Bell, for example.

Alan,

Not exactly the same fit.
I swapped into the newer SA GP-5W and discovered that Arai had standardized on shipping with thicker cheek-pads, which were now 5mm too tight for me.

I tried using the ones from my old helmet (they are compatible) but they were too loose.

Ordered a pair of “just rights” from the Arai website.

I went with a Stilo GT5 Carbon Fiber. Great fit, for my head shape, and light. It's also the quietest helmet I've owned.

I just got an Arai GP-6 and fits my head perfectly. Challenges - first times strapping the 6 point harness will be tough as you can't see properly, but after a few times you'll be fine. I really need an intercom system if running with somebody in the car as it is very hard to hear the other person. Get a darker visor as well, will help during the sunny days.

Thank you both for your responses!

It is the lightest helmet on the market right now, by a pretty good margin. My Roux was 4.2lbs, my Stilo is 2.6.

I have the Stilo ST5 in CF and after having had Simpson and Bell helmets, the Stilo fits the best for my head.

I wanted to get it painted and/or graphics on it, but ended up just having my friends print me a decal with my name on it, lol

I have always used shoei moto helmets and arai car helmets. On my fourth one now. Love the fit and the visor variety. I go with super dark visors to prevent eye fatigue and they act as anti glare during night events from faster brighter car headlights.

Good thread for me...I'm getting back into going to the track in a couple months in my newly acquired low grade model 991.2 GTS.... ;-)

My Bell is a 2005 $400 job ...so it needs to be replaced. Not sure my head is worth a $1000 helmet. I want a black helmet, with removable inner cushions that I can wash.

Anyway I have a business trip taking me though Myrtle Beach area in 3 or so weeks. I'll have to stop by and see Clark at Apex Performance and get a new helmet and other things.

Glad to hear you are getting back on track. I'd consider a 991.2 GTS an excellent choice. I've built one more than once on the configurator.

Any details/photos of the new car.

just a lowly GTS... lol..nothing cool compared to GT3's...wife and I are sharing this time. So it doesn't have a wing and has vented seats. 5 lugs this time though!!!! No center locks!!! Yippee! Just doing some auto cross and probably no more than 5 track days a year. GT Silver black wheels
