According to the article they said he was driving an electric car which I assumed like a Tesla. Yet the car burns into flames. Must had been a hybrid.

As those goofballs would say on the show
The road curved too much for the car.

He was on completely the wrong line and too fast. Considering how much Crazy driving these guys do, id say it's a very forgivable mistake. He's a very lucky man.. 3rd very major crash he's had and come out alive.

I get the feeling these electric vehicles are a bit like the modern day pinto except a lot more money. From an electrical engineers perspective I'm not convinced the technology has been fully vetted in crash tests. Packing that much energy into a small place is dangerous let alone a bank of them to propel cars to sub 3 sec 0-60 times. Just as in the case of the pinto, the engineers were pointing out the problem but the money counters were doing the risk vs. utility measurement. As we have today the utility coupled with the race to market and profits is outweighing the risk. (I.e. We'll sacrifice an injury or even a life or two and just pay the settlement costs). I'll be a little more optimistic when advanced engineering car companies such as mclaren or porsche fully vet a pure electric solution (if they ever do). I'm not on the inside like some of the RL'rs here but I feel like an all electric solution is a long way out. On the other hand I'd love to own a car that can get me 250 miles before I have spend the night to recharge before I can continue my journey! I could go on...
Hopefully Hammond heals up quickly I'm waiting for season 2 of grand tour to start! Hammond - let's keep it between the ditches. Don't make me cancel my Amazon subscription.

He's in too hot and off line for the corner, but it looks like that was the result of losing the rear coming out of that mild bend before the corner. At that speed, it makes no sense that the car should lose rear grip at that point. If one looks only at the corner entry where he crashed it looks like he's offline and in too hot. But if you back up a few frames, the rear is going away exiting the prior bend and causing him to run wide and screw up that last corner. IMO, the question is why did the rear break loose.
