Default How wrong was I...or...I've changed my opinion

A thread started today by Jrtaylor9 https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-...e-adopter.html got me thinking about Porsche GT related things I have done an about turn on or eaten humble pie for.

Have you changed your opinion over time or with experience, on something P GT3/RS related?

In my case, I'm quite sure that I posted my opinion about the looks of the RS wing as being something "horrid". After owning the car, I now love it!

Nice to hear that your opinion of the wing has changed.
That big wing is the one thing that I gave real serious thought to before I ordered my car. Was dreading going down the road screaming, "Hey look at me, I'm Ricky Racer !"
The regular GT3 wing was plenty enough attention I thought. Still have to wait about 3-4 weeks before the RS shows up at my door and looking forward to learning to "love" the big wing. There is no doubt the overall performance of the RS will bring a big smile.

I owned a 997.2 GT3 as well as the 991.1 GT3 at the same time. I found that I was never driving the 997.2 anymore.

I have watched F1 use paddles for decades and have always admired them. To me it was a very simple transition using paddles instead of the shifter. I haven't looked back and have absolutely no regrets. It is the best car I have ever owned.

Only car I still lust over? A 991.1 RS.

I have never been a wing guy and was worried going with the GT3 for two reasons. One the wing and two no manual.

Yes the wing is way smaller than the RS wing but still it was one of my reasons of being worried that i won't love the car

I have owned the car for 11 months and love the car more each day i drive it. The wing, the no manual - all this is in the past. My GT3 is my weekend car and sometimes i can't wait for the weekend to come to drive it. For example today i took it to work.

Even when i am on vacation in another country for a week or even less i start itching that i wish i could just drive the car. If i could i would ship this car to every destination i travel to i really can't get enough of this thing. I think if i had an RS i would probably never leave the driver's seat

Lusted for the RS since the day I saw the reveal. Still lust for it eventhough its right out in the garage now. Wouldn't change a thing on that beauty.

My exact thoughts. I don't know if I could drive around with the bigger wing.

Years ago in my Porsche fandom an old established owner told me "real Porsche's have wings" so no change there. As to the two pedals, initially I hesitated prior to getting an allocation but no regrets whatsoever. As a matter of fact I am inclined to think that my next P GT car will also be two pedals.

i never realized my RS had wing until i lined all my RS up and took pic of them.
to my eyes, the wing is all too small. i need something wider so i can change diapers and have brunch

As long as the aerodynamic elements(wings, etc...) are FUNCTIONAL...............AND they actually get used (at least once in a while!) on track then 'big wings' don't bother me.

To me 'Ricky Racer' is either:
1. Aero that's never used
2. Non-functional aero

Just my .02.

Recently a memory came up on FB that recounted my first take on the 991 GT3 at the LA Auto Show. It was not favorable. At the time I owned a 997.2 GT3 and thought the world was ending because the GT cars were going to auto. Then I drove one.

I still think the 997.2 GT3/RS are some of the best cars Porsche has ever produced but the 991 GT cars are up there too. Maybe not as involving but their limits higher all the while being even more useable. I ate my words.

I never missed my 997.2 GT3 after trading it for a 991.1 GT3.

do you miss your 991.1 GT3 now that you traded it with a GT4 or do you prefer the GT4?

Agree the wing is obnoxious if it's your dd or quasi-dd. If it's a car, purely for fun/occasion, I'll take my wing large and my color offensive to most; maybe even some decals for good measure. If it resembles a life-size match-box toy, I'm a sucker for it.

I had a guy stop me in Walgreens parking lot. He asked "after you installed that wing, did you notice a difference in how it drives?" I told him, "yeah, at really high speeds, the car can actually lift off and hover". He looked at me confused, not knowing whether to laugh or take me serious. I eventually laughed to let him off the hook. So, yes, occasionally it attracts the wrong attention but later that day I had a guy in a 356 do a u-turn to catch me at stoplight and give me a thumbs up. So, the enthusiast thumbs-up trumps the clueless boy-racer questions, imo.
