911R Weight Reduction
#286
Ya, im kinda bummed to hear that people put you off from posting on this. I don't have an R, but think it's a great car and think kits like yours are part of what make Porsche special- true enthusiasts with skills adding to our shared world of motorsport. F^(k everyone who hates on that.

Yes. Ignore the haters. And this might be a tad easier now that the Touring has ironically helped validate the 911R (not that it needed validation in the first place).

As an engineer, I love the detail and relentless pursuit of the nth degree of improvements. Fascinating to follow along and watch your development. Would love for you to continue, and also would enjoy hearing the subjective feel of the changes each new part makes.
Of course, such a relentless pursuit makes sense to few. Those that have to assign a “value” to everything in reality know the value of very little in life. I never understood those who felt the need to rain on another man’s parade to make themselves feel better. What a poor way to go through life.
Hope to see more updates in the future.

Wow this is my sort of thread!!!
Robert, I've got a 991.2 GT3 coming in over the new few months. Pretty sure I can't commit the budget necessary for the full weight loss program, but would love to make targeted improvements.
Would it be possible to name the top 5 or 10 highest impact lightweight upgrades you're offering (relative to price)?

Though this has nothing to do with the R, thought you might like to see this rear anti roll bar for another car. It is made from carbon fiber and "printed" titanium. Weight was reduced from approximately 10 lbs. to less than 2 lbs. The front bar is even more dramatic -- from about 15 lbs. to approximately 2.5 lbs.
As to the R, quite a few things have happened, e.g., by the end of this week, the carbon fiber oil tank should be completed using, of course, the newer interior configuration for GT cars.

Lovely, the weight saving is shocking
I was looking at the Porsche web site and the old 917K came in at 1/2 the weight of a current GT3 (I assume this is dry weight, not sure 600kg is correct), I wish my 991.1 GT3 was lighter.....

Good morning Mr. Linton,
I for one among many others here, certainly benefit from your engineering technical know-how. I hope you don't get tired of sharing your engineering ingenuity. Have a great and safe Sunday.

BTW, as have never in any way modified or changed any part of my first Porsche Turbo, I will not change anything from my GT2RS. On the other hand, there are many things that could be done for the R and the various iterations of wonderful GT3.

... lovely, Robert... makes me miss my ‘86 A1 black 930 turbo even more!
