Just read some where and do you think I can remember where, nope. Anyways, they're saying that F1 this year will be much more like previous years in the sound/noise department.

IIRC a change has been promulgated that will require an extra tailpipe or two for the turbo wastegate. Last year the wastegate vented into the engine exhaust pipes. Some people think that will help sound.

Unfortunately a turbo engine will never, ever sound like the glorious NA engines of the past F1 cars. They are however, making a change for 2016. Will they be louder? ...probably, but they'll still sound like crap. Ticket sales have been down....so they're trying to re-capture that.

ALSO DC COMMENTED SAYING, “PART OF THE F1 EVENT WAS ALL ABOUT WHEN YOU ARRIVED AT THE TRACK YOU GOT EXCITED BY THE NOISE AND THE ANTICIPATION AS SOON AS YOU HEARD IT.

Just listen to that!!

GT2/RS will obviously take the crown back. I'd imagine a sub 7:10 sec time with over 600hp and 3250 lbs.

GT3 gets 4.0L for .2 generation. It will have around a 7:20 ring time. Will be an incredible car.

.2 GT3RS gets an all new 4.2L engine with 355 torque and 540-550 hp, finally goes on a real RS diet, particularly of the interior, and achieves a 7:10 time, problem solved regarding being faster than the Turbo S.

The GT3 scenario is likely, I'm not so sure if they'll do what it takes to make the RS an RS again.

.
There has been long talk about the displacement of next-gen GT models, and here's my .2 cents;

.2 GT3 may get 4.0 instead of 3.8, but I highly doubt if .2 RS would get 4.2L displacement.
991.1 GT3's 9K RPM with 633.3 CC per cylinder (3.8L/6) is already a breakthrough and the best in the industry.

It's clearer when seeing that 458 has only 562.5CC (4.5L/8) per cylinder, which makes it much easier to rev higher.

Porsche increased total displacement by 200CC for RS, which made the individual cylinder displacement at 666.6CC (4.0L/6), and it had to sacrifice top 200RPM for the matter.

Another 200CC may not sound big of deal here, but it may not be easy as it sounds;
If you can find a high-revving (8.5~9K) NA engine with displacement over 600cc per cylinder for a road going car with warranty, let me know because I want one too!
4.2L is simply not yet doable due to the restrictions of material/heat/longevity issue, although this may change over the course of time..

Would like to know if the new MT gearbox would be a direct bolt on to the 3.8l engine. If not, Porsche will go with the 4.0l in 991.2gt3

I think it will be the 4.0. I think the 3.8 has its gremlins/limitations that they worked out with the 4.0.

I had a chance to talk to a person from factory who has access to the GT division and the cars that they are developing; he said the division is developing a turbocharged 911 GT car (with 100% certainty) and he was not hesitating to say it will be a GT2. I tried put myself on dealer's list next day for a GT2 and a GT2RS, but they say it's too early for them to take deposits. Let me see what number I get for the lists;
